Haven't seen wear like this before. Acme 422. When does this type of thing become a structural integrity issue?

Interesting, and puzzling. It looks like a type of corrosion.

Google Cavitation-corrosion. It is particular form of erosion caused by the "implosion" of gas bubbles on a metal surface. It is often associated with sudden variations in pressure related to the hydrodynamic parameters of the fluid (e.g. hydraulic turbine blades, propellors, stirrer blades, etc.).

I think a better picture would be good showing the pitting/erosion better.......with no shadows right in the affected area

Then send the same picture and question to Acme and see what they say

How many hours of use on the prop?

It looks like cavitation erosion to me. My company's ocean-going vessels have to replace propeller blades on a planned schedule -- due to cavitation erosion.

Erosion due to running in low water / silt conditions looks different....the blades are thinned out and shiny.

The rash on props isn't uncommon. I've seen it more on older hand worked cast props. Here's one from the past:

Once upon a time a short time ago in a land call the USA, there was a company called Central Valley Propeller. (CVP props for short)

They were pretty popular

They turned into a company that no longer exists, because a number of their props came apart right where the blade meets the hub launching a blade right off the prop. They had thin blades, so do Acme props

Same area as cgerdz prop which is a little different situation than Pete.s prop picture from a Ski Supreme thread

I figure Acme may want to get an upclose and personal look at his prop

You're probably right about Acme wanting to take a look. I'll get in touch with them next week.

I have no idea how many hours are on the prop, I'm at least the fourth owner of the boat, and the prop came in a box as a spare.

I got it at 452 hours right before the 4th, and we hit 477 today. I'd bet almost anything this is bhectus old boat (unless there is another with an Apex, the exact gel scheme, and N3 guide post covers on it), doesn't look like he's around the forums any more though.
