Might have been addressed before but I replaced the steering cable on my '93 196 two years ago. Money and time well spent!
Last spring my bilge flooded while waiting for a transmission service and now my steering is as stiff if not even worse as it was originally prior to my replacement. Does this happen to the steering cables on these boats, once flooded then toast? |

Also, is there any way to lubricate or revitalize the cable?
Just asking. |

I had the same issue on my 1994. A new cabLe only lasted a couple of years due to Constant water in the bilge. I fixed the bilge water problem and installed a new cable. It was still performing well until I sold the boat in April. I looked for cable lube options but couldn’t find anything.
