I have a 94 Ski Nautique with on and off problems with the ignition button.  Systems are as follows.

1.  Can push the ignition button in and the light will light up and can use all other buttons no issue.
2.  Turn of the ignition button and then immediately try to turn it back on and it will not work. No power to anything.

Tested The Follwoing.

1.  Confirmed 12 Volts to ignition button from hot wire. Grounded hot wire to negative terminal and 12 volts reading
2.  Confirmed switch is working. Yes ohms test completed and continuity confirmed with button turned on.
3.  Confirmed continuity of hot wire to ignition switch.

I am baffled as the 12 volts seems to flowing through the system when grounded directly to battery.  Could it be a faulty ground wire connection.  Conclusion of that thought is it works sometimes and immediately not.  I could not find a wiring diagram and was not able to trace back the ground wire.

I also do not understand the ground connection.  The ignition button does not have a direct ground wire connected to it to light up the switch.  Could that be that the ignition button light only turns on when there is non faulty ground wire all the way through the dash button wiring.

I was having intermittent issues with my circuit breakers / dash switches in my 1994.  I just bit the bullet and put in all new push-on / push-off circuit breakers.  When installing, I took the time to evaluate the wiring and cleaned things up a bit behind the dash.  It worked wonders.

The light is separate from the switch.  One side of the light is connected to ground but the switch is not.  Like JQ says you have an intermittent switch/breaker and it should be replaced.  I have had success cleaning the switch by spraying WD40 or contact cleaner into the switch and work the button a few times.  You could try that while waiting for the new switch and if it works then you will have a spare to keep in the boat.  Disconnect the battery first.
