My 1956 Atom Skier "all original" engine is getting a 65th birthday present with a engine overhaul by VanNess Engineering.  After breathing life into my dad's boat after sitting since 1975ish I figure I am about out of luck as it has pulled skiers the last few summers, but overheats and slips gears a bit. Question for the group...as I have "kept it original" so far, Dave VanNess recommended a conversation to 12v system. (for those of you who are not familiar, the early CC boats ran with a 6v, generator electrical system)
Pros and Cons of the conversion are welcomed...and I do plan to enter it into some boat shows but not dedicated to getting high scores etc...as my dad skied the crap out of it and the mahogany is fairly beat up.

I'd imagine that VanNess must have some good logical reasons for the comversion.

Maybe things like safety since the old original 6 volt stuff probably isn't spark protected in any way shape or form and you could use a 12 volt blower in place of the blower that you probably don't have at all right now.

From an earlier thread, you already have an extra battery hooked to your 12 volt non original bilge pump unless you replaced it with a 6 volt pump.

It sounds like it's not a "trailer queen" and you get some use out of it.

On the other hand, it'll cost you some bucks to convert things

So, it seems like it would come down to a matter of safety, convenience, reliability and cost
