Thought some of you might be interested to see my latest project boat -- A 1985 Sea Nautique 2700.

I have been posting about it over on the "other" site, but I thought you guys might enjoy checking it out as well.

The previous owner has installed some great improvements to this rare vessel, and I am going to enjoy finishing this one up. It still needs a good deal of cosmetic work, but much of the mechanical stuff is complete, including the rebuild of the two Ford 302 engines, the installation of a generator, installation of air conditioning, etc.

The Sea Nautique is a very rare boat. Only about 13 were ever built. They are twin-engine, 8,000 pound ocean-going vessels.

We took it out for a ride yesterday, and it seems to run well!

Nautique sent over the original build order today. They can pull these from their microfiche by request.

Here it is being loaded onto its current trailer.  Not sure I am going to keep this trailer.  I may try to source a newer one.

Here it is sitting at my dock.

And one more test video...

First repair that needed to happen was the repositioning of the bilge pump float switch. I took care of that a few days ago.

The pump would kick on and pump out the water, but it wouldn't go down enough to let the float switch return to the off position! That meant that if the pump kicked on, it stayed on until I manually turned it off!

I moved the switch to a slightly higher mount, and now it works properly.

Also, since there was rain coming, I decided to try out the old canvas that came with the boat. It is old, stretched out, and some parts have shrunk, but I was able to get it all put up, and it seems to keep the dash area dry.

Nice looking rig!  How about few pictures of the inside?  Any idea how many of the 13 are still floating?

Beautiful boat Jeff.  The dual engines are awesome!

Looks like it rides a bit bow heavy?

Here's a shot that shows a little of the cabin.  There's a head with shower in the door to the right.  I'll try to get in there today and snap some additional pictures.

It is a heavy boat, but I haven't noticed it riding bow-heavy.  Maybe it is and I haven't noticed.  The trim tabs may also be pushing the bow down.  I haven't played with them too much yet other than to level the boat.

I've never been in a Sea, Fish, or Cuddy.  I know there were comments that a Cuddy rode a bit bow heavy as compared to a Fish, which of course makes sense, and your Sea has even more weight forward of the COG, though a much bigger boat so can handle the weight.  With the engines so low and forward I'd think the boat would ride quite well.  Where is the fuel tank, and how big?

Really love the boat!

Very cool "big water" (In my universe, Norman is big water) boat.

Great looking boat. Nice to have some versatility on the water.
I think the nose heavy look comes from the anti-fouling paint line on the bottom. I am no expert but I would say the paint line is 2 inches too high in the back and 2-3 inches to low in the front. The paint line may be straight but it is not level with the water line. It would be fairly easy to create a new paint line raising the paint line on the level going to the front. I do not know what a stock paint line would look like for this boat but I know many old classic wood boats have a 2 inch off color stripe above the anti-fouling. This makes it easier to see from shore how the boat is sitting in the water. This lets you know if your boat is taking on water and or the pumps are not working. I think a little paint work may be in order for this boat.

Two big fuel tanks in the back -- 100 gallons each.

I am actually thinking of removing the bottom paint completely.  If I keep this boat here on Lake Norman, I will likely keep it on a lift, thus no need for bottom paint.  Without it, it'll look better, possibly run a little faster, and won't require bottom paint maintenance.  The big question is how the gelcoat is underneath.....

Thanks for the update Jeff. I don't know these boats that well. Is this the same hull as the Fish? I know the latter could also be spec'd with twin screws.

Wow, 200 gallons of fuel, I wasn't expecting that!  That's a lot of range.

So are those engines 220 HP each?  I'm guessing you get a nice easy cruise speed in the 24-26 mph range.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw those tanks. Did CC happen to provide the SFC/Range chart?

I believe 215 HP is about right for these engines.  These do have the 4 barrel carbs.  Here are the specs from PCM for the 302.

It should have tons of range, which is cool.  I just need to be careful to not let the fuel get stale.

This hull is completely different than the Fish Nautique hull.  I have a twin-engine Fish Nautique as well, and the hulls are not similar at all.  The Fish Nautique is 23', the Sea Nautique is 27' with an even deeper V, plus the beam on the Sea Nautique is 10' where the Fish is only 8'.

Here are some interior shots from today.  Lots of cleaning needed.  I believe most of this is original though, which is cool.  The air conditioning and shore power panel are later add-ons.

The center cushion comes out and there is a table under there that can be raised.

This is so cool Jeff. What a time capsule to be sure. Shore power and AC panels are definite plus depending on how you utilize the boat. Definitely more suited as an ocean going machine than inland but you'll have fun with it.

My in-laws spent a couple years on a Grand Banks after my father-in-law retired from Delta. And when you're retired 10-12 let’s is plenty, since you don't have to be anywhere. But I always thought the ability to go twice that speed is way better in order to get out of the way of cells that pop up on you. Not as big a deal on most inland lakes, GL’s excluded of course.

I love how bright the cabin is.  For the era of boat it seems like a really useful layout below decks.  Is the window glass all frosted?

The side windows are plexiglass.  I am going to have those recut.  Should be a fairly simple replacement (I hope).  They currently leak just a little bit, but I think it is the frame to deck seals that are bad.  I'll pull each whole assembly out and reseal everything.

The front windows are glass, and they are just dirty.

Are you going to flip it when you're done? Lake Norman is a good sized pond, but that's still way more boat unless of course you're looking for floating camper too feed.

I do not plan to flip this one.  I am planning to put some pretty significant effort into this one over the winter to make it reliable, functional, and safe, while keeping it as original as possible.

I really like the rare Nautiques, and this one fits the bill.  I'll probably keep this one as well as the twin-engine Fish Nautique (if I ever get that thing finished).  One of the original mid-90's Paragon Ski Nautiques would complete the collection.

Got to drive a twin, fly bridge, San Juan back in 1976. Pretty cool.

I think he said there are 2 100 gallon gas tanks, he might go to Cuba on one tank easy!  It is just that $1000 bill for filling the tank that hurts.  OK, In California Gas dollars today.   You guys might only be into this $600.
