Howdy all,

I have a 1992 Sport Nautique on a factory single axle trailer.  I’m the 3rd owner and have had it for years.  I’ve never been a fan of this trailer, probably for no good reason (just wished I had a dual axle) but over the years I’ve rebuilt the surge brakes (and then recently disabled them because I hate them so much lol), redone all the wiring, replaced all lamps with LED’s, recovered the bunks, replaced the rotting wood with diamond plate, and then finally figured I was good.

Nope.

This last summer I had a blowout on the busiest part of Interstate 85 North of Atlanta, with semi trucks zooming by doing 80 mph.   So not fun.  About $750 later (Roadside service plus two new tires….all installed on the side of the freeway….best $750 I’ve spent 😬).

So it appears I WASNT done.  I need to find and add a spare tire to my #$@%! trailer.  Lol.  Honestly I should have thought to do this years ago.

Does anyone know the bolt pattern for these CC trailers?  And has anyone added a spare to this trailer, and where/how?

I have a 92 Sport Nautique on a Ramlin single axle trailer. I added a spare tire carrier to the frame under the bow. I think I got it off Amazon, but it has been a few years. I don’t trust my memory on bolt pattern I know it is 6 and you can see that in your picture. I am fairly certain mine were on 5.5” diameter. If you can get to your trailer the best thing to do is measure real quick from bolt center to the center of the one across from it.

I know that CC had someone making their trailers for them until about '92 or '93 (if memory serves me) and it was something like "Orange Trailers" or something like that.  So I'm thinking you may have gotten the newer version.  Does yours look like mine?  I'd measure but, unfortunately, the boat is several hours' drive away.  Cry

Ok did some digging around.  The CCF "Search" function didn't help me (thus my post) but using Google/CCF I found a post where these trailers used a 6x5.5 wheel.  The "H78-15" tire translates to a 225/75/15 (which is good, as that's the tire the roadside guy put on, 10 ply).  So I think I have what I need to order a wheel.

Question:  The standard center bore appears to be 4.25" (109 mm).  I assume that'll work with the trailer?

Lastly, any suggestions on mounting on the trailer would be great.  Not a whole lot of room for it.

I have one mounted near the front just behind the bow stop.  I ordered a new wheel a couple of years ago.  I am trying to find the receipt.  I will post it if I find it.

This is the unit that I have on my trailer.  My wheels have a lug pattern of 5 on 4 1/2 but I can see that you have a 6-lug pattern.  There are spare tire carriers / mounts that will fit your wheels.  For reference, this is what it looks like with a tire mounted:

Also, I gutted my brakes years ago and then swapped out the entire axle assembly for a straight axle without brakes.  I tow with either my F-150 or RV and have never felt the need for trailer brakes.

I have a trailer that has 2 more trailers on it. I didn’t even use the trees, a simple engine hoist/crane/picker did the job.

There was one time I was pulling our boat to the lake for a vacation trip and some guy decide to just stop on the highway. Surprise that I was able to stop without hitting him and surge bakes kept the trailer align with the truck. Scariest situation I ever been in while traveling with our boat.

I really like the looks of the dual axle trailer but for practicality the single axle is much easier to move the boat around in tight spaces.  My last two boats are on dual axle trailers and in my world I am always needing to pull or push the boat into very tight spaces and on all those sharp turns the single axle works much easier, there is a good and bad trade off with the dual axle set ups.

+1 on Surge brakes!!!!!!!

The 88' is on a 87 trailer and for the longest time I wished I had them as there were many times the pucker factor was off the charts because some Clown pulled out in front of me or swerved in my lane I've almost tagged a few cars....... Boatmate Trailers added surge brakes for me a few years ago and it was the second best thing I did for that boat.  Money well spent as they've saved a few fender benders for sure. First best thing was going with a Acme 540.

Here's my spare tire mount. I had it made by a local trailer builder a few years ago. Works well so far.
