The JQ Red Nautique was engaged in high altitude maneuvers this morning. 7,620 feet to be exact. The engine ran well, but if felt like a 240 h.p. non "HO" engine at that elevation. I was only able to get 4,600 RPMs and 39 mph at the high elevation. The water was outstanding and the scenery was even better. We each got in 3 sets.

Great Photo, I think the elevation would hurt me more than the engine.

I should have brought supplemental oxygen as the elevation kicked my 62 year old butt. Tired, but a good kind of tired. J (wheeze) Q

Love it! I'm 4 years behind you but it's the combination of the altitude and age that gets you. Or is it the recovery time?

Great picture and calm water! I’m used snow skiing sets at that elevation. 39 is fast enough.

On the river yesterday in my 1995 with 3 people and gear on board we hit 48 MPH GPS.I think it was nearly 5,000 RPM but elevation was 25 foot. We did have flat water all day. Did not have your scenery.

Jonny...........whatever did you do with all that extra time you had, since you didn't have to drain carburetor bowls, take them off and change jets for the altitude change or fiddle with the timing either?

I would need a few mph of downstream current or a good tail wind to get 48mph out of the 94.

I spent my free time replacing the fuel pressure regulator, MAP, IAC and TPS to correct the dreaded GT40 loping idle problem. In all fairness, I probably caused the loping idle after replacing the fuel injectors with the fancy new purple pony injectors from Ford Performance. All joking aside...the thought crossed my mind that a carby engine would need a timing and main jet tweak to perform up in the rarified air at 7,200+. I really do love the GT40 and the benefits that come with EFI. I'm just praying that the ECM holds together and I don't have to perform major surgery and yank all the EFI stuff off and go back to to old school carb and distributor... JQ

JQ,
Great photo! Also sounds like a great day at the lake. That is the calmest water I have seen in a long time. Also, I would take 4600 rpm's all day long. Ha.

About a month ago I volunteered at a veterans ski clinic. We were at a private lake with the retired USA Olympic Disabled Ski coach so we had all kinds of adaptive equipment as needed.Oxygen not being a factor at around 320 ft.elevation. However, age was an issue. We had vets from Desert Storm, a few from The Korean Conflict male and female, and a 93 year old from WW-II and Korea. The 93 year old said it had been a couple years since he skied and wanted to start on a single. I do not remember how many attempts he made, but stubborn and would not give up. After some breaks he ended up on a para-slolom sit ski. As it turned out the couple years since he had skied was 30 years. The grit and determination that I witnessed exhibited the way they have lived their lives and the will power of our veterans. It was a great day.

93 and still trying to ski. He is my hero. Man, that generation was so tough. We might all be speaking German now if not for that group.
