Guys, I have a local guy that trailers his boat a lot and he's looking for a 1990's or later trailer for his 1980's boat.  He has a nice late 80's trailer he would be willing to trade me for my 1993 Ram-Lin trailer.  My question is, would this be a good trade for me to trade my Ram-Lin for a "Correct Craft" boat trailer???

Here are some pics of his and then mine.

Here's my Ram-Lin:

I think you both don’t know what you have.

please enlighten us.

His looks exactly like a correct craft trailer from about 1982-89.  I've never really known much about mine, other than the guy I bought the boat from said it was a Ram-Lin trailer and with the square bow stop, it looks like many of the Ram-Lins I have seen.

Only Hollywood knows of what he speaks.

Since the boat on his trailer is a real late 80's (so late it's called an early 90's like your boat), I'd look at how the boat sits on the trailer and compare it to how yours sits on yours.

Maybe tow his boat and trailer around to see how it tows.

Not knowing how much or little you tow, it's still nice to know how it tows before you do anything.

Not knowing how you load the boat on the trailer, or how you would get a dead non running boat on the trailer, you can't help but notice that his doesn't have a winch, but that could be remedied.

Are there gonna be any registration issues since maybe one or both trailers might not have a VIN number since you're not sure of the manufacturers?

Are you happy with what you have now?

So many questions Wink

One last question...........why do you have 2 jacks on your trailer?

Nope,we are in Wisconsin, so no registrations, or anything like that.

I don't even power load, I usually pull into the dock, shut off the boat, then manually put the boat onto the trailer, and I DO use my winch...so GOOD CALL on that, I hadn't even noticed that he didn't have a winch.

Oh and I have 2 jacks, because the original that is welded onto the frame broke some years ago so I added another aftermarket one as I can't remove the old original one welded to the frame.

Thanks for all the questions, and making me think a bit more about everything.

I'll guess that your old jack probably has a giant snap ring type clip that holds the jack to the part that's welded to the frame.

It lets the jack swivel up and down.

Pop that off and you'll only have one jack.

Totally off the trailer topic..................how's your rudder these days?   Is the JB Weld holding up just fine?  Just a yearly check/question  Wink

thanks. I am going to check and see if my jack has that ring clip that I didn't see, and then remove the old jack.

The rudder is great.  It has held up very well, and looks as good as new still.  So no issues with it.

After looking at your frame and the area around the fenders I feel Hollywoods correct.

Yours looks more like a Boatmate than a Ram-Lin. I won’t say never but I haven’t ever seen a Ram- Lin with a bow perch and a winch unless it was added by the PO.

Cant see much of the other trailer but his bow stop looks like it was adapted to the trailer ( something just doesn’t look right to me)

Tim is the trailer expert maybe he’ll weigh in.

I think the rudder is in there for the long haul.

yep, I don't think I'll need to replace the rudder any time soon.  Oh and I kept my trailer as well.  With mine set up for my boat, plus a winch (which I use all the time) I decided to just keep it.  Plus I like my chrome rims better! Wink
