Question, I have to get a new car battery and I was looking at the interstate batteries a AGM technology. Are AGM batteries Good for use in our Nautiques?

Of course, this happens tonight of Black Friday, so I will have to pay full freight tomorrow! Lol!

I’ve had AGM batteries in 3 Nautiques.  Love ‘em. Just one guy’s opinion.

it's like most everything else Otto......opinions, most everybody has one.

Kinda like an oil or oil filter question, or  Ginger or Mary Ann or maybe Mrs. Howell

If you buy one, then you'll have an opinion too Wink

oh yes, I agree with you 100%. I just didn’t know if the marine fiberglass mat batteries were built differently than the automotive, fiberglass mat, batteries! I was reading that the liquid batteries, or as I called them, the traditional batteries starting performance however, the batteries have better discharge properties when you’re sitting there listening to the radio. Is there any difference in weight? I already have plans to replace my battery in my Nautique and my Lyman this spring, even though they’re only about four years old why ask for problems!

Fun fact: I learned a couple of years ago that my biological father dated "Ginger" (Tina Louise) back in the day. You can bet that she had plenty of guys asking her out. I never knew him and she didn't remember him when I spoke with her, but my half-sister clearly remembered it.

AGM advantages,  they can be charged at a much higher rating without damage, 70-100 amp charge is fine, most older boats do not have this ability to charge at higher AMPs  due to small alternators.

The AGM will supply full starting voltage till it is nearly empty so it feels like you have a full charge.  And then it is dead.   So they work fantastic and longer but just like your battery powered drill it can suddenly have zero juice.

They can last longer than traditional wet cel batteries but when they are drained a battery charger might not charge them.  To charge a fully dead AGM battery you need to hook your charger to one good 12V battery and use jumpers to the AGM to trick the battery charger into charging the AGM.  This only happens with a fully dead battery, like when you leave a light on and forget to turn it off.

So they have strong advantages and a few disadvantages.   Personal choice what to run.   In my car I run the AGM, in my boat I stuck with the Wet Cel battery.  Again, Personal choice, I like seeing the Volt gauge and getting a good feel for how strong the battery is in a boat.    I have had Wet cel batteries/traditional battery have a plate come loose in a boat and short out to be dead instantly so each type has plus and minus features.

Then you consider the cost.  AGM almost double the expense.
