I have a 23' FISH. Can anyone tell about the Prop Guard (skeg) listed as a option in the early brochures? What does it look like, are they available, do they work? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Don't know exactly what you mean by prop guard, but my wildcat has a 4" skeg on the bottom of the shaft strut. I have'nt seen this on another C.C.

If you look at the brochure from the reference section, one of the option is a "prop guard (skeg)" What I am wondering was it just a fin infront of the drive shaft or what? Thanks

The shaft strut bolts to the hull bottom, the shaft runs thru it, the skeg is a backwards curved fin, the prop is behind all this, so the skeg protects the prop from the front. if you like, I can e-mail a pic.

23FISH ,the skeg is a rudder-like component of the gearcase.
it provides stability and tracking,as well as countreacting steering torque when it's equipped with a torque tab.[fins]sometimes 1 or 2 depending on hull design, engine hp,ect. basicaly adds more stability. |

it's a SS bar about 1 1/4 dia that run at the same angle as the drive shaft , supported by a v strut in front of the prop ,don't know if it slows you down , never been on one without it , works real good , 2600 rpm = 24 mph , ran aground many times , one time I was thrown out, prop still looks new ,only problem I think it collects grass , by the way it's an 86

Thanks for the info and the link to the picture. Does any one know if there are any available out there? That twin is in Orlando and when I saw it it was pretty rough, though the engines are new. Thanks

I almost took mine off , grass collects on the v part and I have to stop and back up , I fish out of Tarpon and sometimes the grass is thick, then my buddy hit a rock with his non keeled shamrock and did a lot of damage , 3 grand plus . I would like to repower with a yanmar 160 ,but the price is 11k bobtail , my 351 fwc runs perfect , but if you ever ride in one with a yanmar , that little 210 ci 4 cyl feels like it wants to twist the shaft off.

What kind of speed do you get out of the Yanmar? My 351W also runs great. Have you checked out fishtheclassic.net (Shamrock page), its a a loaded of great inboard stuff. Great technical stuff and accurate.

my buddy's 246. 190HP Yanmar 4LHA-DTE in my 99 246 WA. My boat will jump up on plane fully loaded with 6 adults plus gear. I purposely propped my boat so it will turn 3500 rpm WOT. I have a 17x17 RH rotation attached to a Hurth 1.51:1 Gear box. Here are the test result with my boat.

just saw the prop article on the home page , looked up size , didn't see 14x11 1 1/8 rh , they did show 13x11.5 1 1/8 rh , wonder if that would work. Another buddy has the 240 yanmar in a 22 cc shamrock , he can cruise 32 , and thats with a full keel .
