I have a 88 nautique with original motor, the guy i bought it from said it was rebuilt but i dont know. The other day i pulled out my spark plugs and out the 3rd plug back on the passenger side water poured out. I took the distribute plug out and turned it over and more water is pumping out of it. I then took of the exhaust manifold and the riseres and they seem to be in pretty good shape not much rust at all. I then did a compression test on all the cylinders and the all read about 100, the one with the water is reading 120s and then drops after a while. The oil in the boat was also milky so i drained that. Does any one know what this could be and were i should start to try and fix it? The motor does not over heat and runs great so i dont know what to do.

Check the exhaust manifold for holes. Have the heads fluxed for cracks.

MY guess would be a cracked head. The compressin dropping on the cyclender with the water doesn't sound good. I would preform a leak down test, see what you come up with.

rmcnautique, The first place I would check would be exhaust manifolds, a crack there would dump water in that cyl.
While they are off take them to a shop and have them pressure tested,if they test OK you have not wasted any time,just a little money. The next step is to pull the heads and look deeper............boat dr |

I have two low hour heads you can have for the shipping if you want them, standard pcm heads from a rebuilt 83, but I wouldn't be so sure thats the problem. I think you need to pull the head off so order up a top end gasket kit and get on with it. If i knew there was water in there I would want to do a complete clean out minimum. This is usually the point where I find that the cylinder wall is cracked/scored etc.. hope you do better.

Wouldnt the motor have been over heating if there was something wrong with the head or head gasket? the boat ran strong at 160.

I suggest begin by taking off the exhaust manifold, hook them up to the garden hose... the ports should stay dry

how long have you ran it with the milky oil? have you changed it lately. Did this just happen after sitting for the winter?
Sounds like a cracked block to me and the compresson test seems low as well. |

so it sat in freezing weather for two weeks? you ran it have half the day before you noticed the oil?
Is this your first time out with the boat or have you owned it for some time? a little more detail,......... sounds like you bought a boat with a cracked block. |

I live in florida so its not freezing, the oil was fine when i went out then after i noticed the water i checked it and it was milky, i havnt ran it since i noticed the oil. I went to the boat mechanic and they said its probably the gasket between the exhaust manifold and risers because the boat runs fine doesnt over heat and has good compression.
