I have a Sherwood G77585 (AKA L-9920G) pulley driven raw water pump on my 62 Gray AMC 327. I am rebuilding it to put in new seals, bearings, impellers, etc.
I've disassembled the pump but I can't figure out how to remove the shaft and pulley assembly from the front cover of the pump. I need to do this to replace the bearings and seals. 
In the picture, you can see 2 of 4 tabs. To release the shaft, do I compress the tabs simultaneously? Does any one know where I can get an exploded view of this pump? Thanks, Steve |

First remove the snap ring on the front, it hold the bearing in place.
I would replace the bearing and the seal kit. You can get the bearing at NAPA, nothing fancy,it's standard, same as a throwout bearing for a car. Take it with you so they can measure it. This is the order of the seal kit, it will leak if not in the right order. The ceramic piece first. The hard part is keeping the spring compressed and it not pushing the shaft key out and lining up the impellor at the same time.

Awesome, Tim.
Just to make sure I follow: 1. The first picture is the back cover, right? Mine is different. It is just a bushing. What year is your pump? It looks like it is an improved version. 2. What is in the front cover, where the pulley is? Is there a bearing or just a bushing? This is what I am trying to get to. It feels a little crusty. 3. My seal and spring are retained with a snap ring. I have removed the snap ring and spring. Does the seal just pull out the shaft? How do you recommend pulling the seal off the shaft? Thanks for the help and great pics. -Steve |

First pic with snap ring is the front of my pump. There is a spacer between the pulley and the bearing, you can see it in front of the bearing. The seal should slide off the shaft. Maybe use some needle nose pliers. I don't have to remove the shaft on mine to change the seal kit.

We may be having a apples and oranges moment.
Here is my pump assembled 
This is the pump with the front and back covers removed from the body and impellers removed 
This is the front cover with impellers 
This is the front cover assembly with the snap ring and spring installed 
This is where I am at now.

OK, you have a dual impellor. I still think the seal kit is the same parts. It should pull out. That cover in front of the pulley looks like the back of my pump. A friend of mine has that dual set up on his American Skier, but it's on the crank pulley.

I have the same pump as this on Steve was working on so I thought I could revive this topic and see where it went. I pulled the belt off to replace and the pump turns but a bit hard by hand. Don't know but that may be normal out of the water so I would like to be prudent and either put it all together and not fix whats not broken, or look a little deeper. |
