Hello,
I have an old buick V6 in my correct craft (198 CID). Does anyone have a diagram showing how all the hoses are suppose to go? I put a new thermostat in it last fall. It seemed to work ok and would open up and pump water out of the port exhaust, but it would still get pretty hot from time to time (upwards of 200.) When i started it this spring it would just pump cold water out the starboard side. (Its my understanding it does this until the thermostat opens then water comes out both exhausts). When i take out the thermosat it pumps it out both sides, with the port side much hotter. I did test out the 160 thermostat i replaced last fall and it opened at about 175 degrees. Any suggestions would help... |

68, Have you looked for the engine manual on marineengine.com ? They will probably have the manual but you won't know if it has a cooling schematic until you get one. Who's marinization is it? Universal? Do you think someone's done some modifications?

68, I feel you should be getting water out the exhaust even if the thermostat is closed. Typically water from the pump is bypassed out the exhaust when the themostat is closed. Have you checked out the water pump impeller. If it has broken blades then these do get stuck in other parts of the engine and or manifold. They can be a real problem getting out! I agree that a cooling system schematic would be nice.
