disc brake conversion info needed

Long story cut short... Having recently bought my Nautique, I realised that the brakes were doing little or nothing. I've swapped out the actuator as the old one was totally knackered and have bled the system. On inspecting the braking surfaces, I need to replace brake shoes, a couple of slave cylinders and the spring assemblies, in other words spend around $100 per axle.

Now here's the problem, living in Scotland it is going to cost me a fortune to have the parts shipped from the US, so this got me thinking a little.... Would there be any reason why I can't just swap out my current drum brakes with a shiney new disk brake assembly and leave the second axle (front) as unbraked by just removing the braking system?

Also, can anybody suggest where I can purchase a disc brake kit-I tried Champion but they were not really helpful to say the least

kodiak disc brakes are what I used. Vented Rotors, SS calipers, and easy swap.

You will also need a solenoid valve on the brake line, so that when you reverse, it will prevent the brakes from working. disc brakes work equally well in reverse, too...

You can use the original acutator, it just needs to have a hole punched in the diaphragm, otherwise a constant pressure will be on the calipers. They will sometimes offer heavier spring kits to keep the trailer from riding up on the vehicle, and burning up the brakes...

mine came frome the CC factory('88) with drum brakes on the front axle only

I need need to either fix mine or convert, but my trailer sits mostly...would the rotors suffer from not getting used?

Disc brakes are for those that can not fiz drums... Just kidding I work on either, would rather work on disc any day much easier to maintain and repair.

Every dual axle trailer that I have ever seen with brakes on it has always had brakes on the lead axle.
