What is the best way to clean/shine all brass running gear? (Toilet bowl cleaner did nothing) Is there a clear coating that can then be applied to keep it from turning dark?
68 Nautique new gelcoat job about finished and I can't but nasty looking parts back on.
Thanks Dave

Dave, I feel that if you polish the running gear and coat it, you will have a hard time keeping any coating on the bronze. It's going to come off and probably in sections leaving some tarnished areas and some shiney. It will not look good!

Well Pete, there is always a naysayer in the group! I have no idea if this would last.

HW, Have you tried the prop yet? I'm going on what some of the wood boat guys have done and tried. The trailer queens of over restoration! I even have a brass set of bathroom faucets that I have a problem with. What did you use as a clear coat?

Pete, that prop sits in the display case here at work. 11" diameter, pitch=small??, fits a tapered 3/4" shaft, 2.25" hub and no key!

The foundry that made the prop I posted has either gone under or been bought out. If anyone is seriously interested, I can get in touch with any copper foundry in the US.

Dave,
I don't know if this product is what your looking for but I have used Brasso with good results.
