When you get out past 45%, you are putting less and less load on the cable attached to the front of the boat, and more and more load on the pylon itself. At 90 degrees the load is entirely on the pylon with none of the load on the cable. 6 to 7 foot pole with a couple hundred pounds on one end, you can generate tremendous leverage on the pylon. Not terribly safe, and not terribly good for the boat.

As a practical matter, when you get out to the side, you can rock the boat pretty good, and there have been cases of riders swamping the boat. BKH

There are thousands of extended pylons out there. You'll be fine. Just use common sense. The pros were doing big tricks with pylons well before towers came along.

As to the tower rocking the boat, we've had this debate before. Everyone seems to agree that the physics suggest the torsional force on a tower should be the same as for a pylon. Yet, pretty much anyone who has used both will tell you that the boat sways back an forth more with the pylon. Go figure. BKH
