I purchased a new steering cable from skidim and they have been very helpful. I cannot remove the old cable. I pulled the cable out from under the "dash board" but the last 1 foot will not come out. It feels like the nut on the rudder end is hitting something in the tube. This is on a 1981 Nautique. Anyone got a solution?

Unless something has changed within the last year, SkiDIM doesnt sell steering cables for Correct Crafts. The generic ones they carry wont have the longer throw that CC used, so you'll compromise turning radius by quite a bit. This is one of the few instances where its best to stick with a genuine CC part from a dealer.
CC put quite a few things through the PCV tube running through the bulkhead (both control cables, steering cable, all the wiring) so theres plenty of chances for the cable to get caught on the removal. Pull it back out and try again. I think I used the opposite method (pulling front to back on removal) than you with good results- but either should work. Regardless, be sure to duct tape a rope to the end of the old cable so you can feed the new one back through.

You should be able to remove the collar nut on the tube on the helm and turn the wheel and feed the cable out.

hl, Take Tim's (TRBenj) advice and send the cable from Skidim back before you go through the problem of fishing it through the bilge. You will not be happy with the results of a shorter throw cable. It may not seem like that big of a difference but it does tranlate into lots less rudder angle and will hurt the turning ability. There are people who have learned this the hard way!
Pull a rope or "fish" back with the old cable so you can use it to pull the new back in.

Once had same problem here in Romania. Might I offer three solution.
I will bid $700. in US currency for your Nautique + trailer C & F any Balkan port of your choice
You might call Gil at Gil's Marina in Clarkesville and tell Comrade Gil Comrade Ivan sends you.
You may take four sticks dynamite one for bow, one for stern, one for port one for starboard with time fuse and move boat to center of your lake. Light fuse - get away quickly.

I'm surprised ski dim would even sell you one, when I tried to order one they told me to go to my cc dealer, and that was the only place you could get one.
