At the end of last years season on my 86 SN (Ford 351 PCM), saw some water leaking around the seal of the circ water pump. took the pump off today to replace.

I read all of the posts on whether to replace with marine circ pump or standard off of car. The standard off of the car has two extra ports on it i am assuming i would have to plug. Does anyone have a recommendation on marine vs car and if car how to plug those ports?   Should i just spend the cash and get one from Ski-Dim?

Shawn, the automotive pump is so much cheaper and very tempting to buy. It will work as long as it turns in the correct direction. That's what you need to verify. Now, many automotive pumps which are driven by serpintine belts also turn in the reverse direction (because the backside of the belt turns the pump.....not sure about Fords) and should work as long as your pulley will bolt on to the shaft. This is also something you'll need to verify. As far as longivity goes, the marine pump will outlast the automotive one because it uses stainless internal parts and heavy duty bearings and seals. As for the extra holes....pipe plugs from the hardware store will work just fine.

Most welcome. As a CCFan'er you'll get a 10% discount(enter CCFan in the code window), but I think it is a 'once a year' thing so get whatever else you might need as well...impeller etc.

is the water hose that runs from the circ pump to the RWP 1 3/4 or 2inches? the one I had was completely dry roted and was demolished when we pulled it off so i can't get and exact measurement

if the pump is working...would it be worth it to just try to replace the gasket first? It wasn't whining. Just small leak behind the pump

So you are going thru all the work of replacing a component & you feel like rolling the dice on how long an old pump is going to last.

You can pay the $ now for a new one & have confidence in your boating this year, or use the old one & keep your fingers crossed.

This thought brought to you by the original cheapskate!

Any ideas on how to check and see it the RWP is working to capacity?

Can someone enlighten me on the RWP bucket test?
