I recently pulled my strut off to have it repaired and noticed the cutlass bearing is a fiber type(vesconite). Is this type of bearing still used and who sells them? Thanks Eric

Vesconite is a white plastic composite and is sold by OJ Propellers. I'm not sure if it's the same thing you're talking about but they are relatively new to the ski boat market: http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=OJ2024 - Vesconite Bearings

They promise 10X the life of standard rubber bearings.

Eric, I think the fiber cutlass you have is different than the Vesconite. Don't know so check this out. http://www.buckalgonquin.com/pages/ProductPages/drivetrain/bearing_page.html - brass and fiber cutlass bearings

Pete, i looked up the site you suggested and the bearing i have looks like the fiber type. Mine does not have groves but the new ones do. Thanks again. Eric

Is this like lifetime brake pads (bad for rotors)? 10X the life of the bearing & -10X the life of the shaft?

My old shaft was grooved - from a rubber bearing.
