what motor oil is recommended for the 454,10w 40 or ???? and for the tranny dexron 2 or what. thanks

Mark, The PCM manual in our ref. section is a 1989 but I'd say it would be the same as a 84. It,s on page 18 and it calls for straight 40w.

Also make sure your oil has the proper package to support a flat tappet cam. Do a search on this site for motor oil. There's some interesting reading material

It's interesting that in the PCM manual, they did state to use a zinc additive but that was only for the Ford 460!!
