Hi, anyone know if the shelves running down the sides of the 79 nautique are neccesary? I need the space for fat sacs and would like to cut them out. Wondered whether anyone has done this or if anyone knows whether they are structualy important, i cant see that they are.
Any advice?

They are not structually important and where optiontional from the factory. I've seen several without them and several with them. The vertical panel is screwed on as well as the rear vertical panel in front of the gas tank. It shouldn't be that hard to remove just be care when trimming the shelve that is glassed to the side of the haul. Grind to much and you have a soft spot on the side of the haul. It doesn't have to be perfect because it will be cover by carpet and you could add filler to get it smooth before apply the carpet to the sides.

Also you will only gain about 6-7 inches total extra width at the bottom and maybe 7-9 inches where the self was. keep in mind the the sides have a slope to them so it is narrower at the bottom where the floor meets the sides verses where the selves meets the sides.
