Keith thanks that is great! It is identical to my boat! And his stripes look originsl! I googled southwind and every boat has different stripes and lettering! I learned to ski behind my uncles 74 mustang in Florida and that is what I recall his stripes/lettering looking like! I will put some pics of my boat on here soon.I got a awesome deal(1300) and the engine is great and the hull is great!I did have to get a new voltage reg. but that is it! Everyones boat is white? my boat is beige on white?? The beige is gelcoat and has not been painted? Anyway I am on my way to my shop to finish pulling out the wet foam floor supports! I have researched repairing this but what is a good brand of this pourable foam and the epoxy for the plywood???Thanks again!!

Kevin, I think you're answering the statement I made in your other thread.

"I'm going to take a guess at the PO's attempt of "restoring" the hull! Since you stated that it is textured, I'm wondering if he put white bed liner on it?? "

What you saw at the store, is anti-fouling bottom paint. It is common for boats that stay in the water for extended times especially in waters that grow algaes on hulls quickly. Bottom paint is not "textured". I'm getting the idea that you're not getting the full story from the PO. I asked you to check the bare areas of the hull (around the bunks) for blistering and gel cracking. Do check.

When you get under the floor, Do try to get some pictures up. I'm still concerned about your stringers even though you drilled the holes.

Thanks! I will check the bottom real good Sat. I have all of the floors up in the back of the boat and they look perfect from the inside! No mushy spotsect.I do think that they may have applied this paint on the bottom with roller and brushes! Where it is real light I can see roller marks!that probably created air bubbles and the texture. The stuff is really hard as well! I tried to clean it off the bottom of the ladder with a razer blade and no go! I did drill through the glass on the stringers every 6 inches and checked the wood with a screwdriver.I did not find any soft or rotten wood? Thanks Kevin

The bottom paint on my buddy's Shamrock looks and feels just like Rhino Liner- its very thick and definitely has a texture to it. Its supposed to be algae inhibiting- its some nasty stuff. To get it off, the PO had it sandblasted.

it's the barier coat that is rough and seals the gel-kote and the bottom paint goes on top of that and will rub off in your hands and is the algae inhibitor. That's why it comes off so easily, algae grows when sitting then when you take off, the paint and algae goes bye bye because of the extra drag created from the algae. But it really looks like crap on a ski boat and you will either have to grind it off or blast it off then you have to repaint or gel again to get it to look good.

Yes it does look like crap up close! I guess that I will have a winter project as well! Does anyone know where I can get a bottom step for my southwind? I can tell that they stored this thing in the water! What about a ski platform for this boat?? I emailed a company in Tenn. ithink that it was called teakworld or something like that but they never got back to me! If I did away with the ladders and just put a new platform it should not hurt the value?? Other than that I want the exterior just like it came out of the c.c. plant! Now the interior is a different story!! Thanks for all your suggestions guys!Kevin
