I am going to replace my packing thursday and.I get alot of water while running the boat(1989) but then just sitting in the water I don't get much at all in the bilge.I was reading an old post and it was mentioned that it only drips while the shaft is turning. How correct is this?
Thanks,Tom

Tom, The packing is water lubricated so it must drip. 3 to 4 per minute with standard flax packing but I would recommend the Goxtex which drips about half that. When you pull the old packing, you want to take a look at the surface of the prop shaft where the packing runs. Make sure it's not scored or groved too badly.
