Eric - I think I am going to have to send you my PCM Tranny. Occasionally (3 times today, also did it last week) it will shake pretty bad in neutral. I shut down, wait a little while, start back up & go into forward with no problem. I assume it has a cracked drum or bad clutches.

I am on vacation at a lake so we will nurse it along this week.   I plan on shutting down instead of using neutral for long periods.

Oil is full & fresh - maybe tomorrow I can see how hot it is getting.

I'll call you when I get home & arrange shipping, etc.

Hopefully you can turn it around in a week?

Chris

Chris, there is not many parts spinning inside the trans in neutral, basically just the input shaft, maybe call me with a better explanation of what is going on in case it isnt the trans

I'll call Friday AM. before I start yanking it out. Hopefully it won't get worse this week - we will be putting about 5 hours a day on it - the weather is great! I'll also check the cable adjustment today. Something ain't right!

PS - Vibration probably is an understatement - it shudders the whole boat big time.

it is possible the damper is about to let loose, when you load it up in gear it quiets, check that first

Thanks Eric - Damper plate is new, only about 15 hours on it. Today it only shuddered once - when I used reverse to slow down (from rope slack takeup) then went back into neutral. I wonder if it is just cavitation combined with my dirty neutral. Other than that one ocurrance, it ran great today - - love our boat!

I call you at the end of the week, if it does not act up anymore I may leave this sleeping dog lie for the rest of the summer.

is the shudder possibly the valve buzz?, there were three style valves because of it and Gepetto at PCM, came up with a hose fix that acts as a hydraulic damper for the valve shutter. possibly?

Chris, It may be cavitation. I've driven many a boat that cavitates when you shift from forward to reverse the first or second time. Once the boat stops and starts moving backwards, does the noise go away? If so, it's cavitation. Both my Tique and my X do it.

Pete - I hope you are right about cavitation. I am going to try to get it to act up today - if I can turn it on & off then I know I have found root cause.

Eric - Sorry no business for you but I couldn't get it to act up again. Bad for you but good for me. BTW my daughter threw it in gear really hard & it still works fine. So it's a big nevermind!   Thanks once again for the free advice.
