I sure home all of you guys in the way of this thing get out of there or ar far enough inland that you can batten down the hatches!

Doc, you are the only member that I know lives in LA. Are you going to have to evacuate do you think?

This storm seems like a monster. It grew from a Tropical Storm to a Cat. 4 in about 12 hours it seems.

I did not think to much of the old boy at first,BUT.Male ,female spanish or German he is fixing to run right up our ass.
I am about 150miles inland , so we will see the wind and rain but no storm surge.Katrina had a surge of 30 FEET.That is where the destruction comes from.
Will also spin off tornados but those are attracted by Mobile Homes so no easy way to escape them.
A lot of my buds have left the coast and heading to higher ground. There is not a motel room to buy south of St. Louis........
We are high and have a generator and provisions to last us, this is not our first rodeo.Thanx for the concern....Billy/Karen

Not sure what to say. Of all the disasters in the US in my lifetime, Katrina bothered me the most. Keeping my fingers crossed the storm subsides a bit, and that our gulf states fair much better. BKH

I've heard from 2 of my new friends in Jamaica...2 out of 30 or so.    Gustav hammered their southern coast; roads and bridges are history. I haven't heard much from Negril...the 2 guys I heard from have good houses, but not everyone does down there.

All be well and if Amy and I can help...

Talked to the dr this morning at 8am and he sez they are ready. Thought he'd be safe as they are 150 miles north of New Orleans. Told him to drive on down but he is gonna sit it out. From the looks of it on Weather Channel it is gonna be bad.

Spoke to the Doc on the phone too. But he reassured me he'd rather have a storm on his hands than living in the North where there is cold and snow

But my payers are with all you people in Gustav's way. Good luck...

You get used to the cold & snow But I could not imagine having to leave home with your belongings in a suitcase and then sit in a traffic jam. Hope you and Karen are safe Doc-

We have gotten used to the hurricanes too.Monterey is far enough inland that we feel somewhat safe, and don't run North each time there have a new name.
Karen, Aliceia, all the dogs and I are prepared and "Hunkerd Down" and safe.
Thanks for the concern from all our CCFans. He still is loosing steam as ha nears landfall, west of New Orleans@Franklin La..............Boat dr

Hope all stays well down there.

Looks like Hanna is going to hit the southeast coast. GA / SC area. I am watching it through tomorrow & have to make the decision as to go batten down the hatches at our condo on Hilton Head or not. From what I see now, it doesn't look good. Searching the internet now on how to board up the window. Anybody want to buy a condo this week?

I understand that power was lost at the doctors complex. He had to get the portable gen set out to fire up the computer for his CCfan fix!
I also understand the generator only zapped him once! Something about that 3rd little prong on the extension cord that was missing!!

The Doctors Office is open..........
What a wild ride guys,we caught the worst side of the Eye Wall.Winds above 75 mph gusts much higher with lottsa rain.
Total amount in excess of 20 inches, all in less the 30 hrs.We have plenty of water here , any takers.
Lost power for 36 hrs. but as Pete said we have to take care of ourselfs, "FEMA can't spell Monterey, much less show up"
No real damage to our place , just branches and large limbs. Oh and lottsa water.
Thanks for the concern from all on this site............Billy/Karen

Doc, Glad you're ok. It's weird how those bands just come and drill a specific part and 10 miles over, there was half the accumulation. We got 28" in 38 hours in 2001. Not on a bayou as big as yours, but a creek...came up and got us.

Very glad you made it through. Let's hope Ike stays away.

We had power for 3 hours and lost it.   just got it back.    thanks for all the ccf memebers thinking about us.

Doc and Karen thanks for the offer, but we will ride it out just like I know you would..

We live in a 135 year old off the ground cypress house. So if it made it that long through all those storms then why leave.
we just dont need no twisters...

thanks again Doc for the invite.   will keep you informed as long as I have power.

Got a few pics i will try to get up later when I get done with all the clean up around hear.

still looks south of us, but the forecast is creeping north...not going anywhere yet. We're between Galveston and Houston (about 20 miles inland and 6 miles east of Galv bay). If there are forced evacs here, we're in the third tier.
