I couldn't find any of the old threads, but here are a few pictures. Nothing but white gelcoat (besides black dash). Maybe The Godfather could tell us how many were made.

I assume this was built as a bargain offering. How much was the cost differential between this one and a "regular" one?

I'd buy something like that. I really like the all white hull w/the simple pin stripe.Too bad they don't make a simple wake/ski boat like that now and keep the price low.No bling(maybe they feel there is no market?). Lower h.p. base engine in that boat, I wonder??
Must not have got enough sleep last night,I just noticed those pics aren't all of the same boat

Yes, this was a great boat package and was called the standard, We made alot of this model in many colors. I wish they could bring this model back. Maybe one of you should ask Bill Yeargin about his option on this model.

Here are a few more. A friend of mine has a '94 as well, which is in the diaries here. No combing pads, rear seat, or motorbox vinyl. His has the 240hp reverse rotation 351w mated to a PCM 1:1 tranny. This '93 appears to be the same.

I would think there would be a market for this. Perhaps especially now. People who want CC quality and especially the CC name but couldn't afford the normal payout should want in on something like this. I sure would have considered it.

I remember this model/options...I like it, seems like to me they could sell a bunch of these no matter what the economic conditions. All the bling is just more stuff to fade and have to clean anyhow. Just give us a good pull, wake and something that rides decent and doesn't fall apart... Reminds me of many models that Ford made back in 60s and 70s...

we're in good shape J. Believe it or not, have only had internet service back at home for a week. Still have no cable TV. Hasn't hurt me too much though.
We're doing some relief work in Galveston and Bacliff which took a little harder hit than we did. Things are mostly normal where I live.
It's good to be back. Sorry for the thread jack.

THIS MODEL WAS CALLED A SCRAPPY. ONLY CAME AS YOU SEE IT. THE PRICE I THINK WAS ONLY 18,500.00 PLUS A TRAILER. THEY SOLD A LOT MORE THAN YOU WOULD THINK. ALWAYS HAVE TO ASK WHEN PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR PARTS. BECAUSE OF THE REV ROT MOTOR.

I'm resurrecting this thread
I happened to stumble across one of these at a Dealer at an undisclosed location in the Southeast
This one doesn't have a backseat at all, in fact, it doesn't even have decals. The sales person said she wasn't sure if they were taken off or if it just never had them.
I wasn't looking for a Scrappy Standard in particular, I was just looking for a good condition 10kish SN with no wood in the floors.
So, what exactly is different about the power train from a regular 93 SN? She said it was, and it looks to be, a Ford 351. I had seen this thread and started asking about engine rotation direction and she didn't seem to think that was different from a normal one.

Ha, sounds like the person you spoke to was clueless. Have them get you the PCM engine ID... that will tell you everything about the powertrain. The standards came with the 1:1.

It's not even up their site yet. I'm definitely thinking about it.

ha you can see another nautique with the same colour scheme as mine sneaking there in the back..lol
needs some decals though...that bare hull makes it look like its naked...

Bri,
Unlikely anyone here is going to steal a boat out from under you. I've been on this site 5 or 6 years and haven't heard of that yet. If anything, if someone knows you are pursuing the boat, they'll back off. If they don't know, fair game.
Do you mind me asking how much they want for the boat. It looks nice, but if it is at the high end of your price spectrum, I would keep looking. There are boats with more features, and newer boats out there in your price range.

Well, she said 9.5k with the trailer. They just sort of put together that package. It was originally a trailerless boat for ~ 7k. It looks like it even has some sort of added on perfect pass type thing if you look at the dash.
To BKH's point, it actually does have somewhat high hours. It has some kind of funny numbers stuck on it; I'm wondering if it came from a ski school or camp or something?
Ironically, an extra feature it does have is one I don't want. It has a trailer with electric disk brakes, requireing 7 pin. I just had my 2006 Jeep Liberty outfitted with a class III Drawtite and a 4 pin. I think the 7 pin round could require some extensive surgery or some extensive duct tapin', which I'm not fond of.
The boat I originally called about and actually prefer, is a 1996 176 with a back seat and everything and hopefully a less complex trailer.
So, would this powertrain be like a pre 89 SN powertrain? I know in 89 they started using the gear reduction transmition that later came out in the newer hulls. Was this actually cheaper to make, or was it more of a marketing thing? Couldn't you just make up for the lack of gear reduction with a different propeller?

The one in the back is a 92 v-drive BFN.

The funny numbers I refer to. What would the 1012 under the swim platform represent?
|

Date Posted: March-25-2010 at 3:27am
I'm going to go out on a limb here & say that that it was previously stored at a marina and those numbers are rack storage ID numbers used to ID the boat.
You mentioned it was trailer less originally.
No this engine setup is not the same as the 89 as it has the 1:1 trans, not the 1.23:1 reduction trans. It will be similar to the 88 & earlier.

Looks like it has Perfect Pass and is a really clean boat. Definitely worth the cash IMO. Also, might want to check those brakes- I doubt they are electric. Even if they are, it can't be that big of a deal to rig the car for that. Certainly not a dealbreaker.

It looks clean- get close up pics before you make the drive though. I dont care for the trailer, personally- I dont think Id pay $2500 for it- Id be more inclined to look for a used CC/Ramlin, or price a new one directly. That boat for $7k looks to be a pretty good price. I think Chopper's explanation of the number on back and lack of trailer is right on. It doesnt look like a ski school boat.
As far as the 1:1 goes, you'll give up a little holeshot vs. the 1.23 (my buddy has a '94 Standard). A new prop will help a lot though. I think the all white interior is pretty classy. Gelcoat motorbox is pretty cool, actually. You can build a back seat if you want, and add combing pads- Id say the vinyl would cost ~$1500. You can add decals and pinstripes to make it look like it originally did (pics above).
Id say thats pretty close to your ideal boat if you want a reasonably priced 93+ CC slalom rig!

Well, she said they were going to get decals for it, so I guess that would be included.
So, the 1:1 transmission is no major big deal though? Do you get a little more top end, or is it pretty similar?
I figure I can sort out the rear seat situation later on. What are combing pads? Are those the kind of armrest padding near the rear seat?
So, this looks to be worth jumping on?
|

Date Posted: March-25-2010 at 1:52pm
Good deal on the decals. Make sure theyre period correct (91-93) and not some hokey new ones. Ask if theyre going to put the pinstriping on as well. The combing pads are the upholstered pieces that go along the gunnels of the boat- the Standard came without them (along with the back seat and upholstered motorbox).
The transmission certainly wouldnt be a deal breaker. The 1.23 is nice, but the 1:1 is fine. A new prop will make a big difference. I havent noticed a difference in top end between the trannies, so I would expect it to top out around 42-43. The 240hp in this hull makes it a marginal barefoot boat, but that can be fixed with a few simple top end upgrades if youre into that.
Again, Id balk at the trailer. I dont care for the looks of the Prestige, and I wouldnt be interested in paying $2500 for a new one. Id see what my options were for a Ramlin/CC (new or used) from the dealer selling the boat. Id also consider borrowing a trailer and bringing it back without one, and try to find one later. You'll never get that $2500 back if you buy it now, so make sure it comes with something you like. The boat itself looks to be a good deal at $7k, though Id probably offer $6-6.5k just to see what they say. Id go over it with a fine tooth comb (including a compression test)before taking it home though.

Buy it....soon
combing pads are interior pieces that run bow to stern along the sides.
Spring is here in Fl, and someone else will be on that deal very quickly if you don't pounce.
Clean boat, new trailer, speed control, non-wood stringers, you're all over it!

I should add that the Perfect Pass and new Acme prop are nice bonuses. If the gel and interior are as clean as they look, everything is functional and the compression test is fine, Id spring for it. How many hours, by the way?

680 hours. I just spoke to her on the phone. I actually expressed the concern you mentioned about the cost of the trailer. She was saying it's and 08 and was originally underneath a 196 of similar vintage.
I offered her 9k even for the whole package, given that the trailer shouldn't be worth a full 2.5k. She's going to get back to me in a couple of hours to see if that's a possibility.
|
Posted By: TRBenj
Date Posted: March-25-2010 at 2:42pm
680 hours is nothing- that wouldnt concern me a bit. Thats only 40 hours a year! Id consider that to be relatively low. My '90 is closing in on 1300.
I think they'd be dumb not to take $9k for it. Hope it works out for you!

I will. I guess the dealer is right across from the lake. She said an on water trial is something that they basically insist upon. I'm a little fuzzy on the compression check, but I guess as long as everything seems to be running/working ok, I'm satisfied.
Yes, I'm in Boston but will be using the boat in NH. I'll add that to my profile.
I met some of you guys at the Lake George re-union in the fall. Actually, my friend and I were kind of like (boat-less) hitch hikers at that one. Some cool people let us tag along on board though.

Good call '79, having the dealership do the compression test seems pretty reasonable.
ChrisM, the one advantage of having the dealer install the decals is if theyre going to pinstripe it too... that may be a job best left to the pros.

Scott had a Yellow and White later model 206. He was there with his wife and young son, and I think they had a baby with them. Scott came out on Saturday with just himself and his 4-year old. I think he's from CT or NY or something too. I haven't seen him on the forums at all, I'm not sure if he signs in or what. I had just met him there. Cool guy though.

Were you on Scotts boat after we were up in Log Bay, and Scott had to go get gas for his 206, I came along for a ski behind his but then my dad showed up with our red 206 so i skiied behind my boat. Were you also out on the 2010 200 on Sunday morning? I skiied behind that Sunday too if you were on the boat as a spotter?

Phil, that could have been my friend Mike you're thinking of, cause when Scott went for a ski, I was on the Air Nautique demo trying wake surfing witha bunch of people.
Both my friend and I were on the 200 Sunday morning.
75 Tique, there was another guy there with a very similar boat to yours.
I'd love to go to Greenlake, but just getting the boat from NC to NH will be kind of a production. It looked like fun though, as did the recent one in Florida.

That 94 is interesting.
My 1991's interior is almost exactly the same with the only exception being I have a trimmed motor cover. I don't have combing pads or rear seat from factory. My 1998 was also the same.

Actually yeah, Phil, I did have a bunch of pictures from that day. I had a bunch of pictures, I have a lot of you. I gave a lot of them to keith and he put some in the slideshow.
Yeah, I know I have a few of you, if you're who I think you are. I'm thinking you skied right after me, you had been waiting in the orange one, right?
I just tried to put one up here, but it was too large. I'll try to shrink them down and send them to you. You can send me your email.

Great Boat. Buy it. The numbers are from a dry storage marina. They will come off. Plug in Adapters are made to go from a seven blade to a 4 pin system. It will be plug and play. I have the adapter on my Tahoe that takes me from a seven blade on the truck to a four pin on the trailer. They also make them the other way around which is what you need. Do not let this hold up your deal.
Congratulations,
Donald

Brian, I'm on the market for some new side decals. I'm going to be wet sanding and buffing my Nautique to bring it back to life. Let me know what you might want for them if you want to sell them. jjmoore1@rockwellcollins.com

daddyo mentioned that it does not have the dreaded Pro-Tec Ignition. What Kind of ignition is it? I imagine that it is HEI if it is not Pro-Tec. BTW, Bri892001 is gonna have to change his screen name...
