Hi Greg - I am in Cummings today on business & was able to sneak out to the lake for a look just after dawn. Went to the south dam area.

What a beautiful lake & what a shame it is so low. Redefines the term 'dry dock'.

I love the steep ravines - one ridge had a great view for miles.

I would have liked to look you up but our travel schedule is very tight.

I'll pray for rain in Georgia - you need it!

Chris

Me or skicat? Either way, it's too bad you didn't have time to drop by. We do have a nice spot here; thanks for the kind words. It does look better without the big red scab all the way 'round!

We do have a new lake advocacy organization that is meeting in town tonight. The corps has finally agreed to re-evaluate the flow manuals, and the new group is mostly made up of businesses and property owners...so we'll see.

Buffalo Greg - Maybe next time my business trip to Atlanta will be in the summer & I might just get stuck in traffic & miss the outgoing flight!

Skicat - I didn't realize you are on Lanier too. Hopefully next year will bring enough water to float your boat.

So there's no money anywhere until BO gets in office?!!? You're a piece of work gear man...if I ever get a chance to say 'I told you so', guess who I'm calling first?

The corps is operating on a manual written in '58 and have been working on a partial edit draft since '89. Today, there are 4 dams that weren't in existance in '58, and a whole lake was added to the system in the '70's. We're driving a Model T in an age of computerized engines!

And there has been money somewhere for the same time frame. I bet the scariest ride ever to be part of a theme park would be named "A tax dollar's actual trip".

Greg, I completely missed your post, I just brought that up because I dealt with dredging compnaies for years and thier funding was cut almost 8 years ago and seeing da new man is going to end the war and start funneling money into the infastructure as Truman or one of those guy's did, im sure there will be some money in there for lake Lanier.
dont feel so bad, Im getting assessed for our 550k damn project which the initial estimate was 250k. to boot i live on a non dedicated street which means no snow removal, pot holes that they found cars in...im waiting for that assessment....we'll hold off on the told you so comment, if we were having this conversation 8 years ago and fast forwarded the clock till now the call would be to you

No worries...I posted that because it shows a good shot of our lake, and it looks good for putting the boat in next year. That park is also just across the street from me.

Then there's that cynical side I have...they're doing this ramp improvement for a bass tournament in 2010 and NOT for the people who live here and have been footing the bill for a long time.

The gov't charges me to fund a new ramp for someone else because they didn't manage the resource properly while appeasing special interest and screwing the local guy!!! How many times did I get taxed in that cycle? And of course there was no 'low water' discount on my property taxes.

Rant over and I'm not even in a bad mood...just need a bigger jar! LOL

The lake has come up a foot over the last week and the ground is soggy; we're not sure how to act! LOL

Some incentive to get the pumpkin back together soon! How's that coming anyway? ever figure out what was hanging up your lifter? An out-of-round bore perhaps?

I don't have my finger on it yet, but I do have it mostly apart again. The lifter in question moves smoothly in its bore so it may be the cam. I'm going to go back through the whole thing...new cam and lifters, clean block and heads, re-hone the cylinders, maybe bearings and rings. I'm reading everything I can get my hands on, and It'll be ready when they finish that ramp.

If you can borrow a small dial bore gage, check you lifter bores & see if there is any difference between the problem one & the others. Check for egg shape. Just a guess.

If you do this now it will remove any doubt about that being root cause.

Have a great Christmas!
