I threw this up in the Engine Repair area, but thought it was worth putting in here as well.

Having trouble getting out all the old oil from the engine???....just add water!

I used Mobile 1 synthentic oil like I was reccomended on here. Anyways, I drain out the oil and noticed it was extremely dark and even after 10 minutes of draining, it was still coming out. I decided to go ahead and flush it to make sure all the bad stuff got out. I hooked up the hose, ran water through the engine, started it up and was waiting for the water to come out clean (The engine never went above idle so I was told this would be ok). Anyways, About 3 minutes into this, then engine starts shaking and shuts off. I figured it was all cleaned out so I plugged it up, added the oil and figured I was ready to go. WRONG! The car won't freaking start now. This car has been nothing but trouble for me, I think I am done with it.

Thats hugely amusing. I'm pretty limited in my mechanic skills, but I'm pretty confident that I would never have pulled that one. He's done with that car....as tho its a lemon that came with the problems. I think 79 should respond to his post...just to help him out, you understand.

I read thru about 22 pages of that thread looking for someone to own up to it being a Hoax and didn't find one so I assumed it was for real...looks like I should've read 23.

Still funny to see the reactions.

I read Andy Granatelli"s book years ago,he told about adding water to oil in Indy 500,because you can't add oil.Lasted like 25 more laps maybe 5 from finish.

uhh, dont laugh ,

While he didnt use water, a neighbor we used to live next to in the 70's, did drain his oil and replace it with kerosene to clean the engine of his Pinto. He then drove the car to his mothers...over an hour away.

It cleaned the engine alright... his new replacement engine was just sparkling!!
