Can one of you '89 SN owners get a measurement for me? I would like to know the distance (Minimum, from cushion) between rear seat & engine cover (Fore-aft).
I have some foam & am thinking of making a drop-in seat cushion to fit there, as a winter project. My boat is stored an hour away, so if someone has their boat handy & can measure this, I would appreciate it. High accuracy not needed, within 1/4 inch (that's 6.35mm for Kristof). My idea is to have a seat cushion for there, flush in height with the rear seat so that the rear passenger can watch the skier without having to twist around. The engine cover will be the back rest. If anyone has a good idea for a cheap base material that won't rot or mildew, I am all ears because it's still in the concept stage. ------------- “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” Ben Franklin |

Chris, the PO of my boat added a couple of loops to the removable deck to attach the seat backwards. It worked great till the plastic seat frame broke. Someday I think I'll reinforce the frame and use it that way again.

Snob looking at your picture in the diaries it is hard to tell but I think you have the deluxe interior.
My 89 has a different rear seat set up it is just a large cushion as a base quite thick though and around a 1" thick seat back that uses snap on fittings to attach to boat. I can get the dimensions from mine but not sure if they will be much help to you. What are you calling a delux interior?? Mine has a small " wing seat" on each side of a large bench seat in the middle. All are a plastic base with storage under it. What dimensions do you need?? From the part of the seat that hits your knees to the engine cover?? Or from the flat panel that is in front of the gas tank to the cover?? Or from the part of the seat that you back is against to the cover?? ------------- Dan |

HunterDan - If you could measure from the cushion (part that would hit your knees) to the engine cover, horizontally, that would be great.
This is a low value project; may not even be worth the bother. I have the materials free & so it will be something to do for my boat in the next week, that I have off. Tim - I thought by '89 they had done away with the foam-on-the-floor rear seat. I'm still learning about these beauties. HEY! , I thought those pics looked familier.
Kinda looking into a similar project as Kim would like a place to lie down and soak up the sun when we're parked (that's where a V-drive would come in handy). Any idea's? Thought of raising the rear seat cushion level with the stern but not quite sure how. A second bench seat cushion? ------------- "Morfoot; He can ski. I have some 6 inch (152mm) foam from a mattress that I scrapped & am just going to make a cushion come out flush in height with the rear seat cushion. It will be about 18 inches (457mm) wide. I have some treated plywood in the shed, will just use that for a staple board. Probably need to bore some holes in the board to let the damp get out, also will need feet of some sort. I have a old vinyl table cloth that I will use for a cover during the test phase, if I it works out then I will spring for some nice vinyl (which I expect to be pricey). If it doesn't work out I am only out a couple hours of time.
Morfoot - You could have a full width pad of similar setup but what do you do with it when not in use? Maybe it would be better to make a full size pad 1 pc to replace the rear seat cushion. Snob, Love the idea! When my buddies and I took a trip to Delhi we turned the back seat around just like BuffaloBFN said, except we put a cooler inbetween the gas tank and the back seat! Worked like a charm and the cold ones were literally at our feet!
I would love to see the dimensions and some pictures of your creation! Might like to add one to our 88. I see your from Cedar Falls, any chance you boat on Delhi? ------------- |

Storm - We bought our SN from a guy on Lake Delhi, test-boarded it there, but haven't made it back yet. The floods last year really screwed up our boating season.
I thought about turning the back seat around but want the flexibility of sitting forward or rearward without a changeover. My kids want me to be centered in the boat while they are boarding because the wake is asymetrical if I sit to the one side. (OCD in training!) I like it when they drive & I can just relax. They both have their boating licenses. Maybe we should have an IA CCF meet next year - there's lots of CC's at Delhi. Will post a pic of the cushion when I have something looking decent. A reunion at delhi would be awesome! Only thing missing would be a hotel. Otherwise it would be a pretty nice set up!
I love making the trip up there to check out all the correct crafts. Theres not many places where you can see all different generations and models on the same lake! Are you going to angle the filler cussion to drop towards the engine cover? I want to say the backseat has a little rise to it from back to front. It'd be cool if you could mirror it with the cussion! ------------- |

Well, my vinyl came today, so I spent a copy of hours trimming & stapling. The corners were much harder to tuck than I expected-- guess that's why Christine is in the business & not me .
If it works well next summer maybe I will have it professionally covered. Only got $12 in it so far!

Finally got around to taking a picture of the final project result.
The cushion works great, very comfortable when sitting backwards & also a nice footrest when sitting facing forwards. The homemade corners don't look that bad when it is in position - not worth spending any money on anyway.

Chris - We are heading up Friday too. I saw your cell phone # on the other post & will give you a call Thursday evening to see what you plans are. I saw that you are staying flexible. Just a warning, I don't trailer over 65 mph, so if that is too slow, then you won't hurt my feelings if you pull ahead.

Chris we do a similar thing in our 89. With the standard style rear seat the base is just a thick covered cushion. We just turn that around behind the engine cover and then use the engine cover as a back rest.
Also have a ballast rear lounge that we used just once and the wake was huge but to aggressive for our level of riding. Your interior looks in great shape.
