When, who and what time are ones meeting for a river trip. Maybe, some of us will not have boats ready for winter or early Spring. Could rides be shared for the day? Will have to see on timing depending on the date.

Cathie and I are currently planning on showing up. We are looking at leaving NC on Friday and then returning late Sunday. We are looking at staying in the Parramores campground in Astor.
We will be bringing the 80 SN and you are welcome to ride along with us. This will be our first trip down to the St Johns so we will just be tagging along with others.

Hope that you can be there...

We are really looking forward to the trip Mark. We have heard nothing but good things from those that have make the trip the previous years.

Steve, the weekend is Feb 13-15th but I would figure that some might be staying longer.

Yeah I think I am going to have to get in on this somehow, I was thinking of being farther south in FLA the following week as that is when some of my teacher friends are on vacation, maybe I will come in early or just do this and blow that off...

I hear Karen and Billy will be there, Woody was a lock, and Billy had another friend bringing along a 76 SN that is currently in the Dr's Office.

Are you thinking about bringing the boat down? I sure would like to get a look at it, seeing how I missed out on both reunions last year and this year does not look any better.

I am thinking about it, but dont think I can make it happen. Not only would it take a machine shop miracle (Which sometimes happen this time of year during recessions) but it would also involve driving down by myself or waiting till Friday afternoon to leave which wouldn't get me there till Sat afternoon... not ideal. Probably end up flying down and trying to bum a ride, will talk to the boys and their bosses this weekend and finalize the plans.

I would have liked to go to the Daytona 500, went a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. But as I have to be back home Sunday night, I will have to listen to it on the radio while driving down the highway.
Maybe Cathie will let me watch TV while I am behind the wheel.
I know that they say texting will be illegal while driving but I can have Cathie change the channel as we pass stations....

Well guys. Sadly, the lovely Mrs. Wakeslayer is unable to get off work. We fly back from our cabin late that Tuesday night, and would be leaving Thursday afternoon for Orlando. However, I do, in fact, have the greatest wife on the planet. And some flexibility with my work. I will be down there early evening Thursday. Barbara sends her regrets and will see everyone at Green Lake in July.

I have barefooted and boarded with bull sharks before, but not alligators. Any difference?

Sounds/looks like an interesting trip. I'd like to pull the 88' down but will have to check with Kim to see if she interested. I'm guessing it's a camping trip for the weekend. John, I'll have to call you and get some more info on this.

Is the river fresh water or brackish?

Hey Guys! I'm back in the fold. Sorry for the brief absence, as the epitome (vacation) and scourge (work) of life have gotten the best of me. This St Johns River thing is shaping up ever so nicely. And to answer Quinner's questions above, in case he really didn't know, that's a 'gator, and not the Tim Tebow kind, although he was rather deadly last night, heh? And you hardly ride a mile on the curvy St Johns in this area without seeing one, and esp on a sunny day. The water is all fresh this far south on the river, but "black", dyed by the tannin from the trees, and crystal clear at the Silver Glen Springs which we venture into to anchor and hang, as shown in some of the picts above.

I spoke to Joe (can you believe he's coming down?) just a minute ago and he's going to post a good map showing key locations. And of course the Orange Crush 409 will be there as well as Marshall's 340 Mustang I believe. (Billy, you'd better be in good tune). If you're still on the fence, come on out and join us. Some of us will be boating Thurs and Fri as well.

Ok heres the google earth tour of the area, it is north of orlando, west of daytona. City of Astor, FL, you can pull the street names of the maps if your looking to google up some directions.

Moving closer we can see the proximity of the public boat launch, Reid's house on Lee St, and Parramores where Critter, Wakeslayer, Boat Dr, Boat Nurse, and crew will be staying. As well as Lake George and the Bay

Getting Closer

Ample parking at the public launch

Nice looking facility at http://www.parramores.com - Parramores

Reid staying in style as per usual

And the silver glen springs

We just need to get information on where we will meeting after coffee Saturday morning.

Cathie and I will not be moving the Motorhome after we set up Friday night so it would be best to meet somewhere on the water if possible.

Maybe we can all boat over to Reids house and get some bacon and eggs before hitting the water...

Just talked to Reid as I said...we kinda decided that we would all meet at the public ramp about 8:30 am...if that suits everyone. Plenty of parking there. We'll all be dropping in there and you guys can idle down from your campground. Not really enough room in Reid's canal to meet there like we did last trip.

Morfoots? The Morfoot's are coming too? Excellent. More great people to meet.

And I've got more good news! I just spoke to the Godfather himself, and he indeed confirmed that he'd be there along with his daughter, meeting up with us Saturday AM. How much more can we stand?! We're up to at least 10 boats now I believe.

Joe,

I am flying out of Orlando Sunday night at around 6:30pm. Let's catch a ride together.
I still have not really worked that part out.
Leaving 80* weather is not my top priority.

Mike I think you might be optimistic on the 80, but I agree that leaving is not high on my list of things I want to do when in Florida. We will definitely work something out when we have to get on the road, my initial plan was to just rent a car for the weekend if that starts to seem superfluous as the data approaches maybe I won't bother.

Normally, I would say 80 would be optimistic, but this winter has been really warm (well, this week is cold). January should be our coldest month and we have had 80, or near it, already. With some luck, we may see it again mid-Feb.

Told the wife all about it last night and she is excited to meet everyone as well.

in MN, in January, 80 is a term used to describe weather where we are not.
At this very moment it is -27* F. at my house. We will not see a daily high temp above zero until mid day Friday. I think anything within 20 degrees of that will feel like it.
Even if it falls short, it will be 100 (ONE HUNDRED) degrees warmer than it is here. One hundred.

That cold weather is working its way toward us. We haven't had a cold spell like that for a few years. One good thing about it is when it gets that cold, it's too cold to snow.

Even if the temps are only in the 60's, it's still t shirt weather and you'll have the whole place to yourselves.

Suits me! We're not sure when we intend to roll out...mostly need some daylight on the other end to pitch our tent. My guess though, is that we'll leave early enough to enjoy some of the day on friday.

As for the boat, I've gotten some help and some good advice with the parts to arrive next week. Here's hoping all will be well!

Greg, need some new tires for the trailer for the trip. Talked to the Boat Dr. and he gave me some recommendations. Do you know any place that I can locally pick up a set of 215 or (205)/75/r15st tires?

I have 205/75 r14st made by Maxxim M8008 (load C)

My local store had them in stock, but I'm sure you don't want to drive all the way up here.

If you do, I'll call him and see if he has 15's. What load rating do you need?

Tim,

I picked up the some for the BFN trailer before the Green Lake trip at Kaufman Tire. I called them & they had them the next day to put on. I don't know if you have them down there or not.

BuffGreg according to the Dr. he suggested 1820 lbs.

Skicat, Yeah we got one close by. they just opened up here recently. I checked online but they didn't have any I think. What have you got on your trailer?

Sounds like you may get down there before me. We probably will not roll in until about dusk. By the time I get the wife moving, it may be dark by the time we get there. Oh, well, just in time to crack a beer by the fire and I have pitched a tent in the dark before.

At this rate, sounds like CCFers will occupy half the campground!

This has more in it than I knew! LOL

I just asked my tire guy what I needed, and remember mine is a tandem.

There has also been a thread or 2 about this on here, but the Doc won't steer you wrong.

I can't remember the exact tire, but the 205/75/15 sounds right as well as the 1850# rating. I will try to find out tonight. I just looked & they have the goodyear marathons for $84.00. I called them when I got mine & told them what size trailer tire I needed & they told me what I get next day. You might try & call them.

Is there anything being organized for friday? I might be able to make it then for the day. I really want to be there on saturday, but it being valentines day that = lockdown for me from the girlfriend. Hopefully I can finish my work on the boat by friday. I know the 75 is dying to get in the river. Chris
