Noticed water seeping from my pump on my 64 american skier when I had garden hose hooked up....Is that normal? also when it idles out out the water the temp gauge seems to move but quickly goes to full hot? I shut engine down, block head and exhaust not even warm to the touch. Is it possible the water is not getting up to that part of the manifold creating a hot spot? Is air in the system a problem like cars? thx in advance

You need a new seal kit, which keeps water from reaching the bearing at the front. If it's a brass sherwood pump, aqua power makes a seal kit for it.
