Not trying to upset the applecart. I was just wondering if anyone has considered a Reunion in NE Indiana?

I know GL is a few hundred miles away, but we have a couple decent CC dealerships in the Angola area.

Paul,
Always up for suggestions for a good time with other CC Faners...

If you can scope hotels, campgrounds, restaurants, boat launches, and good taverns for 150 or so of your closest friends, just let us know

There is also a non official gathering that has grown in central IL after labor day that has become of great interest !!

Keep watching the site for news about Green Lake. This is something you don't want to miss !!!! Welcome to the site !!

I am not 100% sure I am the one to organize such an event, never have attended a reunion yet. I might have to aquire the help of some friends.

I do know that Lake James would be a pretty decent location. State Park, Hotels, Sand Bar. We also have a pretty decent night life (in the summer.

Just for future reference WUSS=Washed Up Show Skier.

WUSS,
I would take the time to come and see what we do in Green Lake. Even if it's for a night and without a boat.. We have become pretty aware of the triumphs and pitfalls of hosting such a gathering. With GL looking like it will top 150 people this year, I think we've got a formula that works well..

I know there are some great places to boat in Indiana, we grew up sking on Lake Schafer, up on the Buffalo side of the river... Warmer, flatter water, hotter summers etc..

Indiana could in deed offer a centrally located spot in the Midwest for a gathering.. If the elements are there, and you're willing to dedicate a fair amount of time, I'm sure it could work out.. Sponsorships will be your largest hurdle.

Let me know if I can help point you in the right direction..

Sound like a good idea. Like I said I am not sure I am the one to head up an event. Just wondering if the subject has ever been brought up. I will see what I can do about GL in July. Does anyone know if there are room available anywhere?

No worries Paul, lets look into it and see if there's a chance it will work.. Oh and you brought it up, therefore, you're elected to champion the possible site

I would check out the following site.
www.greenlakecc.com for hotel listings.

The prefered choices in Green Lake are as follows:
Bayview_ not likely you'll get in there
Lakeside- possible, as people have shifted around
Oakwood B&B- very possible
McConnell Inn B&B- very possible
Green Lake Inn- always available
Dartford- always possible.

The nicest place on the lake is the Heidle House, but it's about $250+ a night..

Plenty of options, plus the campground in town where the CCFan'ers take over every year..

Lots to do, restaurants are abundant, beaches, boat launches all within walking distance..

Hope to see you there. Watch for a registration page to come up in a week or so for more information...

Again, if you are serious about looking at another site, I'll help give you some helpful advise..

I believe that there was talk a few different times about trying to move the GL reunion to be more centrally located in IL, IN or OH seeing as a number of people come from the east coast. The problem was finding the right location with the right accomodations with the right people making the right effort. Nobody had objections but nobody took the reigns either.

Mojo and a couple others who live on or near GL put forth a huge effort for this reunion and I'm sure would be more than happy to turn it over to anybody willing to put forth that same effort.

There were rooms at the Bayview avaiable a week or two ago. Awesome place if bringing a boat, they have their own ramp (free)and docks!   Phone..920-294-6504

Regretably,

Originally being from South Dakota, and growing up in Ft. Wayne. I would have to say Angola is far from "being in the sticks"

Probably close to 100,000 people in the summer, mostly lakers.

Several bars and night clubs, some you can reach by boat, some not. The sandbar is probably one of the biggest attractions on Lake James.

As far as the lake patrol goes, I am not sure about that. Never had much problem. I actually live on Hamilton Lake and I have a few connections with the local conservation officers.

Ft.Wyane is a good 1/2 hour 45 minutes away, you have two options for lodging on the lake, without the lakers the population drops to maybe 10,000 and mostly from near by Angola.

one side of the lake is a state park without lakeside camping, just about every nautral lake in Indiana has a sand bar on it somewhere and that is where you'll find the majority of the boaters.

logisticly there really isn't a good meet and greet site for a BBQ with water access. MWCC is in the area but also supports the GL reunion might be a little much in today's ecconnomy to support two. Most of the lodging is 15 minutes or longer to the close launch ramp..... and on and on.

Spent a season or two on Indiana lakes and This would not be my first choice for a reunion.

It does have a campground, huge resort and bars on the lake Chris..That's a start right?? Ha

If there was a reunion considered there it would be in place of GL. We wouldn't do two Midwest reunions..

It looks like the real attribute is skiable water... The rest we'd have to see how it could be put together... One issue is "Barney", the other would be how crowded the lake gets..

The advantage GL has it can handle really any size group we have, sand bar included...

hey Chris, are we going to see you in GL this summer??

Some might be taking this the wrong way. I was just checking to see there ever has been any interest or discussion in another location. That's all.

I was not trying to plan another reunion or suggest moving a reunion to a different location. I am not trying to sell this area as the hot spot. Heck, I don't even live on Lake James.

I was just trying to see if it had ever been brought up.

My wife and I are discussing comming to GL this summer. We just have to see how our schedules work out.

I really wasn't trying to make anyone upset; Or have a battle as to how many campsites, hotel room, and bars there were in our area.

Well WUSS, looks like you got SERVED! Just kidding. I think all this reunion talk is great. There is a huge network of CC owners out there, so much information to share. There sure seem to be a lot of owners in NE Indiana, you might want to see what you can dig up from the Sea World ??? reunions hosted by CC in Sandusky Ohio in the past. I was all set to go to what would have been their last, and then booked a trip to Detroit on top of it on accident. There seem to be tons of classics and original boats at the dry shows, but the owners of the wet ones sure are hard to beat! The boats are nice too. I know our boat looks much better on the water than on the trailer.

Don't sweat it. I would love to see a reunion that is located a little more towards northern Ohio or Indiana. I've never been to Green Lake, mainly because it has fallen on the same weekend as our show ski regional tournament. It sounds like the ultimate blast for us CC owners, and I plan on making the trek one of these years. These guys are pretty protective of that event, and well they should considering what they've invested in it.
But there is no reason not to put together "Mini-midwest-reunions", spread out over the summer months. I plan on inviting anyone in the SE Michigan area to come to White Lake for a weekend this summer. I have accomodations that will sleep 10 uncomfortably at my cottage (mostly the floor), and space for upwards of (6) tents and minimal parking. The good part is that there is a great bar (with outside tiki bar) on the lake, a party store with a dock, and two sand bars. The lake is 540 acres with a slalom course, and the Sheriff is cool.

Paul,
You are unfortunately taking this the wrong way. What seems to be banter, is simply a discussion with 79 Nautique.. He's from the area (not that he wouls actually show up or anything) HA...

I think you brought up a very good location. We were just bringing to light what needs to be thought out while putting one of these things together...

From experience however, you DO need someone to spear-head the thing. If someone does, I bet you'll get more boats out from this sight alone to hook up with then you know what to do with..

We have kicked dozens of lakes around in this discussion. Green Lake fortunately offers everything you need and would want for a reunion location..

Watch for the registration thread and book some lodging (you could always cancel)... Look forward to seeing you and your family this summer !!!!

There is a camp ground on the opposite side of James first basin with some dock space as well. Bledsoes beach also has a few bar resteraunts. My law professor at tri-state used to say steuben county had a population of 20k and 200k in the summer. Weekends look that way till after labor day then everyone disapears. if it were to happen there it would have to be slightly after labor day and I would think.

I'm on Crooked lake now, patrol is pretty heavy usually though boat traffic and patrols were down noticably last summer due to the high price of fuel.

Would love to see it, but im certainly not the one to organize it.

i for one would love to see a cc reunion in angola indiana. we do our boating near coldwater michigan which is about 20 minutes north of angola, and i've always wanted to attend the midwest reunion. there are a lot of nautique owners in that area, old and new boats alike. midwest correct craft used to be in the area, but since the buy out it was closed last summer to my knowledge and bruce now works for n3 boats in indy, but still lives in the angola area. this could work in the area, because there are so many lakes within a close proximity. lake james is a big lake with a good night life, like mentioned by a previous post, but not limited to just lake james. if this is going to happen it has got to be a collective effort and i would be willing to help out as much as i can. i live in napoleon, ohio so that could be difficult at times. i know the area to a certain extent, but not as well as some of you that may read these posts.

Hi Greg,
As it was mentioned in this thread many moons ago, the idea is wonderful, but for it's overall sucess you need the dedication of a couple of guys on site to do all the work setting a reunion up. Even if it's a mini-non official gathering, someone like yourself would need to "make it happen". Scoping accommodations, resturaunts, sand bars, activities, bars (I almost left out bars) Ha... Anyway, you get what I mean. Once you have a functioning group willing to put in the time, you can make it happen.
OR.
Come up to Green Lake and have the time of your life in July with 200 of your closest CCfan friends you could ever have.. Once you do, you'll always come back !!

what is the date for the GL event? i know i'm a little behind, always have read posts, just never got into any of the discussions. the mention of angola area as a possible site for a future event caught my eye. like i said i would be willing to put in some time. as a matter of fact i'm meeting with bruce from the former midwest correct craft over the holidays and i will be prodding him for some possible sponsors, sites, and other cc people to possibly contact that may have an interest in bringing a cc event to the area. thanks for your input though.

I alwas thought with Ken living on Crooked and midwest in his backyard an angola program might fly but I think the possibilities of sponsorship just got much less unless Vera Bradley wants to throw some money at it.

James would be easier as pokagon is on the lake with a great beach, returant etc...

If it ever happened it would have to be right close to labor day or just after if the goal was to get decent water. Traffic seems to start slowing late august witht he kids going back to school so early.

I really miss having Bruce and midwest 2 miles out my back door. He helped me a lot last year with the mustang interior.

I think it would be interesting to have a mini-reunion in Angola. Not sure which of the lakes would be the best?? As a kid, we came up from Indy and camped in Pokagan State Park. I still have a very vivid memory of how clear the water was. It was amazing. I think we may have been on Lake James??

Plus, I can just imagine all the classic Correct Craft's on these lakes having had MidWest Correct Craft there all those years.

Is this mini still in the works, or has it lost steam?

I would hate to plan one without ever having been to one before. I used to do a lot of classic car shows and still do a couple model airplane events each year. What i've learned is planning and running an event makes the actual event much less fun to attend. Im going to try and make one of the other events this summer and see what is involved. If one come together around here i'll be available to help out but I just dont have the time in the summer to do it well.

I read a post on Planet Nautique titled My new 99 super sport.
The post has been somewhat hi jacked by a event called Crush the Ice for Life to be held in the spring at Bixler Lake Park in Kendallville IN.
It looks like a fun weekend and any proceeds will help fight cancer.
I think I will check it out this year. Maybe this can also work as a mini reunion?

i checked out the thread on planet nautique. while the event looks like a lot of fun and obviously for a good cause, i don't know anything about that area and what it offers. one of the interesting things i did see is that adam wensink is involved. i have met adam and he would be a great resource to help with even a mini event regardless of location. for anyone who does not know adam, he is a rep for nautique serving the midwest.

Adam I believe is scheduled for GL again this summer. He was to bummed for not being able to attend this year's event...

Regardless, if the contingency of Eastern Indiana/Western Ohio wants to put on even a non CCFan sanctioned weekend, just know that many guys have already booked out their July to come to GL.

My suggestion is that nothing is happenning in August. Might be a good time to put something together....

went to the fort wayne boat show this past saturday and picked a few brains about a possible mini reunion. first i spoke with the manager of ride the wave a local ski and wakeboard shop. they have an annual block party which includes a family friendly band, volleyball tourney, cash bar, and last year had a ride with scott byerly. she suggested maybe coordinating it with the block party would be a possibility. also ran into adam wensink and mentioned it to him. he was working at the dry dock display, they both were very receptive about the idea and if anyone else would want to jump on board maybe we can at least feel this thing out and coordinate it with the ride the wave block party and call it a mini mini reunion. anyone?????????

I stopped at the marathon station by ride the wave sunday night on my home from skiing, I thought they were going out of business, trucks backed up to the door, showroom bare... they must have been coming home from the boat show.

Just another random thought, ont he far end of the third basin of crooked by the ski course is a club house and docks for a new subdivision. If you were looking for a place to meet and park some boats that might be an interesting spot pretty open till the development grows and just a few houses down from the Meloon home (ken i think) and the old Midwest cc buildings.

When is the block party?
Greg,
I noticed you are in Napoleon. A friend of mine holds a barefoot endurance race, called the Buckethead, on the Maumee river. Are you familiar with it? We race from Grand Rapids to Napoleon and back.

I would be up for Lake James, The State Park Lodge and Camp Grounds are as nice as any. The crystal clear water means no scum ring on the boat and lets not leave out the slalom course that is always up and usually maintained as well as the submerged sand bar to auger into so no beaching. Sounds good provided I still have my boat. I will keep watching the post.

I have 2 houses just north of angola! 8 miles. I like the idea, I will put up all that can make it, bring your boat or use mine, BTW i have a grill that can cook for 50 and the old @&$^ can cook like you never seen! LETS DO THIS!

Lake James would be a great spot with the State Park Lodge and camp grounds, the submerged sand bar, the slalom course and of couse the 5 connected lakes with almost crystal clear water. I would be in if I still have my boat then. When should we all get together the ice has melted and the dry suit is just hanging around?

Sorry for not responding. Brian McMillan, Buckethead, the namesake, because he wears a helmet while footing, is the one who puts on the race. Scheduled for Aug 14th this year. Last year they had 11 boats. This race is more of a boat race with a footer in tow. The water is almost always glass, so some guys run at 50+mph.

If something happens in Angola, and the date works, and it doesn't interfere with the Argentina reunion   , I'm in.

Sounds like a planning meeting is needed down at the acupolco grill on Bledsoe's beach

we are putting in docks April 17th tentatively depending on weather. Sounds like we are getting a little more interest and i know that there are a lot of nautique owners in the area, so if it is marketed well we could have a pretty good turn out. i will help as much as possible, so if anyone wants to get together and see if we can pull this off, shoot me an email and we can get together over a few drinks of course.

I for one do not want to take anything away from GL and the wonderful things that have been developed there by both the members of CCF that help to organize it and the people, business and sponsers of the GL community, However to start out with a mini reunion or gathering of Correct Craft Owners and CCFs in the area of Angola that are unable to make the GL event do to scheduling or logists the Angola area would just be great for a 1 day or weekend meet-up.

You do have (2) Correct Craft dealers right there: Terry's Dry Dock (a former Master Craft Dealer) and I beleive "The Marina" on either Gages Lake or Lake George. O' I almost forgot about The Wawasee Boat Co. on Lake Wawasee (near by) who goes back some time with Correct Craft I beleive.

I would think that if someone close to the area really wanted to put some kind of a meet, show, ski and yes drink that it could easily happen, as a get together or a mini if you will.

If you really wanted to do a mini maybe 2 years down the road that the State Park would Block a section of rooms for a given weekend. Just ask the Inn's Event Booking Host for further details.

Sorry I got so wordie.

jeff, sounds like fun i'd like to try and get up to the north chain, calmer water for skiing sounds great. but i don't know how my work schedule is going to work out this year since i just started a new job, but if you get down to the south chain let me know and stop by for at least a drink or two. if nothing else works i will probably be at the corn roast with my boat, so maybe i'll see ya there if not before. here's to a great summer in 2010. later, greg 419-966-6880

I would be very interested in going to a mini at Angola this summer. I remember like it was yesterday the crystal clear waters in those lakes from when I was a kid camping there in the 60's. And, thats not bad considering I can't even remember what I had for breakfast this morning!!! Thats just how clear the water was....and hopefully still is.

Also, I bet it would be a haven for classic Correct Crafts on those lakes with Midwest Correct Craft having been there all those years.

Maybe Bruce Foutz would be the honorary Grand Marshall for this event as I think he still lives in the area.

Watching, just dont haqve time to do anything about it...

I was up to the cottage a week or so ago and surprised by what I saw going on in the area, Huge switch in the marina situation around the lake! Dry Dock is now the corect craft dealer for 2010, the marina on orland road, (boat farm) was shut down and all the boats and lifts gone... formerly one of the 3 Vera Bradley bought I also heard they sold off the lake george marina and I have not had time to go by Gage and see if the marina/handbag shop closed as well... Even the Boat house on the corner by funspot was sporting a new name, Bell marine. I drive by most of these all winter and did not see any changes till a week or so ago. Looks as though Dry dock is the official correct craft dealer in the area now.

Anyone hear more of the story? With the boys baseball season in full swing i probably wont get up there much to find out what is going on till june now...

Which lake Dave? We used to go to Lake James and stay in a big ole Inn at Pokagon State Park. Very cool place, had a big wooden ski jump ramp or tobagon slide if I remember right.

John;

I think it was Lake James, but, I can't remember for sure.

I am going to be on a business trip through northern Indiana in a couple of weeks, and will be in Angola. Thought I would check out the Pokagan Park while I am there, and maybe even see if there is a cool hotel near the lake(s) to get a feel for the area and do a little advance scouting work for anyone interested in doing a mini at Angola.

The potowatami inn is located on James right at the end of the tobagon run. Nice resteraunt lodging and beach front with docks on the pokagon state park site. Would be a good site. They have the float fly ins there and such. there is also a couple other cheaper hotels just down the road.

now this sounds like a possible mini in the making. anyone in angola or near want to go talk to the people at Pokagon about the possibility of having such an event there???? Any dates, start throwing them out????? It could be a one day event? We can always go bigger in years to come, or if we get this thing figured out maybe eventually host the midwest reunion and share it with the good people who host the GL reunion.

If I may......
I've gone back and read these posts (that started over a year ago)and with the interest of about 6 people, you would think that one or two of you can get together and plan this mini out... It's going to take the dedication of just one or two guys to see it through, or it's never going to happen..

Suggestions from someone that knows...

1. Just pick a date
2. Just pick a lake
3. Just pick one day of on or off water gathering
4. If you can't get the support from a local CC dealer for a larger event, then just "get together"...
5. Bring lots of beer and make it happen...

I've heard 18 different lakes being offered up... Pick one !!!!! Sand bars reign supreme for get togethers. Makes it easy to roam around, check out all the members boats and easy for kids to have some fun..

If you can tie this in with a local event, all the better.. Adam from CC would be a great to get on board as well..

I'm going to pick up my boat next weekend from Wawasee. I can talk with Jim and Dave and see if they would be interested in doing a demo and or provide some merchandise etc.. (I'll let you know)....

Creating a mini or major event, and I've mentioned this a dozen times, someone to just get it started... Look back at how the St. John's river run has exploded, look at what Ryan is doing in Dallas... Mini's don't stay "mini" for very long !!!

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{All it Takes is a date and a lake}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

For best results and more participation, keep it a couple of weeks away from the Green Lake event. Then more people with think about it..

Talk is going on 15 months now. The thread is still active... Make it happen guys. You wont regret spending a weekend with CCF people.

Lastly, again, if you can make the GL event, there are plenty of places to stay and camp sites available. Get there and experience the best time you can have with your boat and some of the most awesome people you'll ever meet..

Moj' That was always my problem with sponsorship from the dealers. If you hit them up in the winter they all cry that they're broke "come see me in the spring" Then you show up in the spring and they're so busy they can't give you the time of day. I get the message, just save me a trip next time.....

Magic, I mentioned to them before about Green Lake, which of course is a little more than removed by distance to central Wisc, but I mean, there was guys flying around this little marina like I've never seen before... I ran into the owner a few times while I was there waiting to get some trailer lights repaired and a few short niceties while he was flying by with the walkie in his hands was about it...

Crazy busy. Now for sure it's got to be like pulling teeth to get these guys to participate..

Yes it does and they have a house boat converted for dinning and have diner cruises and party rentals too.

there is another resturaunt on the lake as well call the Channel Mark. I liked this place more than I did the frog food wise, now Friday or Saturday night during the season, party on at the frog, just watch out for the lake patrol on the way home.

I'll be on the lake the next 3 weekends (Aug 19-21, Aug 26-28 & Sept 2-5th) and love to look over and talk old & new Correct Craft boats. If anyone is planning on being on this chain of lakes feel free to respond and we'll try to meet up!

Thanks for the "suggestion" but i'm not really looking to trailer my boat 1,000 miles for the weekend to the East Coast(Just not what I enjoy). If the Midwest reunion was closer and not at GL every year i'd probably be more into going. Also, Midwest Correct craft was just closed in 2008 after YEARS in business so there are MANY old and new Correct Craft owners in the area to meet with. I hope you enjoy the ECR.(not meant to sound offensive, just saying...)
