When you start having second thoughts about the Dearbo, just keep in mind that there are people out there that restore them!
Here's the latest from Steve and Steve (father & son) Hilpisch.
And the 312's they are working on.
They don't goof around with flipping a boat ether!

Wow. They got brand new rebuilt Y blocks just waiting to be installed and 4 rebuilt trannies.
Pete, would you rather have one in your Dunphy than the Velvet Drive?
I should be testing mine out in about 6 weeks. I hope it works, otherwise you may see me in a Malibu at Green Lake.

I've got confidence that it will run great.
Why don't those trannies have the vent on the top?

Eric!! This doesn't say much on your rebuild skills. You should have more confidence than that!
Bruce,
I'll say it again that it should run fine. It wasn't until Interceptor started using the Dearbomatic on the higher HP 312's that problems started coming up. Even then, it was only after quite alot of hours were put on the trans. Dunphy was using the 312/dearbo set up on the early X55's (63 to early 64). 10 years later, I know of two on our lakes up north that were converted over to the Velvet. My X came through from the factory with the Velvet.

We're the proud owners of 2 of those Dearbos. I'll have an opinion on both of them by the end of summer. I think I told you we got a bell housing with a Velvet Drive 70 with the Classic just in case. We've got a bunch of spare parts for the 312, cam, distributor, oil pump, VD. I haven't even looked in all the boxes yet.

its not the rebuild skills, its the guts of the trans, it reminds me of the Ford Tempo, it was a Temporary car...one of the 7 wonders of the world i guess
Riley, keep going...10-17-004
