Here's some more pics of the project so far. I have removed both stringers and cleaned the hull up with a grinder. The old stringers came out in one peice so they should make a pretty good template. I used the grinder to remove all the old foam and excess epoxy. Does anyone know what else I should do to the hull to prep it so that the new glass will bond to it? Has anyone else on the site had to do such a major stringer repair to a 90's boat? I am wondering if there is this much damage from day to day use or if this boat was swamped from a ruptured ballast bag. If anyone is interested I found a supplier of kiln dried hardwood in Ft. Myers. The owner tells me that his fir will not rot and does not need to be treated with cpes. I probably will still use it though.

Joe, if you Edit your above post and press enter between each picture they will be better to view. This puts a single picture on its own line and the posting is not so wide.

Looks like you have a good start there.
Make sure that you use a good layer of mat to set the new stingers and clean the hull well with soap and water before setting the Mat.

Search and you will find many postings on Stinger repair.

I should've gotten my lumber from him.

Joe,
Spend some time using the search feature on stringer replacement. You'll find lots of answers. If you don't, come back and and we'll help.

So, this guy is telling you his Fir won't rot!! What is he smoking? Does he even know what CPES is? Hopefully he's not trying to sell you some kind of treated lumber. Don't use it! Primarily because the chemicals used in it and the epoxy resin don't like each other. It affects the bonding. Secondly, unless you find #1 kiln dried AFTER treatment the moisture content is way up past the ideal <8%. Do ask him to get his moisture meter out and show you the reading you get on your Fir purchase.

Please go back at use the "enter" key between your pictures - thanks.

I went to that lumber store. The guy had alot of nice stuff. He has wood called purple heart that feels as hard as steel. I don't imagine a saw would even cut this stuff. He says they used to use it on slave ships and it lasts hundreds of years. The purple heart was overkill especially at $15 per board foot. I ended up getting kiln dried clear cypress. I am still going to cpes the wood so it lasts.
