How can I refurbish old Boat Deck Hardware that is now 45 years old?
I am restoring an old 1963 Correct Craft 17-foot Classic and the deck hardware (cleats, vent scoops, step plate frames, mirror, etc.) are all very old and pitted. The finish is completely off some parts exposing the bare metal for some parts like the rear light pole.
Is boat deck hardware Chrome or Stainless Steel? Can I take my 15 or 20 parts of deck hardware to a Chrome shop and get these re-chromed? (or re-stainless steel-ed ?) Any ballpark ideas on what this might cost?
I have regelcoated the entire boat and would like to have nice cleaned up hardware to put back on - but I want to stay with the original hardware. Any ideas? Does anyone happen to know of any good chrome places in Colorado?

I donīt know cost but those parts can look as good as new after having them re-chrome!!!!
SS i guess that with some polish and buffing you can bring them back to its glory....

The majority of your hardware will be chrome plated zinc die castings. Lifting rings will be brass and chromed as well. Yes, all can be re chromed but all platers may not be equipped to do the zinc die cast. The process involves placing the parts in a tank to reverse plate removing all the old chrome. Then parts are buffed, pits repaired and chromed again. The process is labor intensive so it is one of the bigger costs in a restoration. Depending on the number of pieces you have and how bad they are expect to pay anywhere for $750 to a couple thousand. It is you only choice for a restoration because you will not be able to find NOS parts and old parts will most likely be in the same shape as yours.
How about some pictures? Are you truly restoring to original?

I ended up getting in touch with Denver Bumper (in Denver Colorado). They are re-chroming several pieces. However a lot is pot-metal, and I have two contacts who will re-chrome those, but waiting until next winter when I have the funds.
Not restoring to original, but keeping very close to the spirit of the era.
I will be uploading some new pictures soon.

I have to tell you if you picked up the term "pot metal" from Denver bumper then it's not the place to take the hardware. As mentioned, all platers are not equipped to handle zinc die castings. I have a feeling that since they aren't equiped for it, they are throwing out a derogatory term meaning the hardware is inferior. The hardware isn't of a poor quality - it's juat made that way!
Yes, re chroming does get expensive!

Currently have Denver Bumper chroming about 8 pieces, all of which are brass or similar. Things like the ski pole, two vents, two large center cleats, the rear light pole and a few other things which are all original hardware.
There are several pieces remaining to be re-chromed and you are correct, Denver Bumper is not equiped to handle the job, they stated that they could not do the work. Next winter I will be looking at two possible places that I know.

He has an old CC step pad mold and cast me 4 for $70.00 I have had for a year and they still look really good. email me a pcooper@rodgersbuilders.com and I will forward you a picture he sent me of the pads he cast.

Your "sjwfish" just took me to google. Is something missing?
Is he making the pre 60's black or the later white pads?
Instead of emailing just me with the pictures, how about posting them here for everyone to see?

Pete, Ive gotten Bill Fish's reproduced pads as well- they look pretty darn good! Theyre the later white pads- Ill have to post pics of them if I remember. Thats his email address, not a website, FYI.
