Hey guys. This is my first post on CCFan.

I bought a 2001 Super Air Nautique last month. It has about 330 hours and a gt-40. After about 2 hours of wakeboarding my v drive light started to stay on as I was driving back to the dock. I was cruising at about 3500 RPM. It went off under acceleration but came back on when I was holding constant RPM's.

I assume the light reads oil pressure. The boat was serviced right before I purchased it. It has new oil in the v drive. I don’t know much about the v drive unit. I am very mechanically inclined. I rebuilt my velvet drive in my 79 ski nautique a few years ago.

I’m just looking for some info on the cause of the light and maybe some info on how the v drive works. It seemed only to do it after it got hot from wakeboarding.

Are there filters I need to clean?

Any information would be appreciated.

I would go here to the reference section and check the manuals, maybe theres a service manual for those..

anytime the trans is in gear whether it be in forward or reverse the light SHOULD go off, the pump design is very strange on the v-drive section because it it has an ecentric inside because of rotation, more or less a plate that turns with rotation and redirects oil flow. in nuetral the v-drive isnt turning so no oil pressure is created and the light will go on. anytime the trans turns whether it be 10 rpms or 3500 the light should go off.....if not then there is a problem. the Borg warner turns ALWAYS with engine and thats why there is always oil pressure all the time

Moral of the story check your oil level in the trans and the Vdrive hope it is low.

Thanks guys,

So if the level is good and the light still comes on, its either the sending unit is going out or the ecentric isnt building enough pressure?

I havent had it out again to check the level while its hot.
