Today a boat in Tampa Bay exploded. I heard it was a propane leak. 14 people injured, some very seriously.
The owner was from my town, but I did not know him personally. He was one of the founders of our local ski club, the Waterhawks.
For anyone still running with an automotive carb, these things do happen - - don't let it happen to you.

Don't know about that, but it was anchored in 3 feet of water at 'Beer Can' island. BTW, found out that there was 14 people on the boat, 11 injured. Got my facts earlier but distorted them at little too quickly.

Well, I have propane tanks, as do most ski boats here.
FIRST thing I do is lift the engine cover. I always start the engine with the cover up. One: it lets eventual gas escape and two: I just love the sound of that engine!
Most boat owners do the same thing.
BTW, if there is a leak and you lift the cover, you can smell it immediatly, cause LPG has quite a distinctive smell.

He probably ran the engine on gasoline but had propane for cooking.

Pretty sure in the article I read they said that the boat was not running, but a generator was. (disclaimer)My facts may be distorted.

On the bigger yachts at the marina, the also have propane to cook. But the ones I know all have alarm sensors where the tanks are stored... IIRC, it's mandatory in these parts.
