any leads on a mid 80's blue boy? cant see any cracks but filled to the rim with water. never cracked into one,
they fired the boat in March and never re-winterized they say, but i dont think it got cold enough to crack the block....thin manifold ? anything else to look for?

Eric, I'm probably not telling you anything, but I have seen a couple of 351 intakes that were cracked at the bottom of the thermostat housing.

me too, the gt-40 that chesslovesmammarys is getting was cracked about a half inch,i wouldve hated to be the poor Bsterd that paid that bill, real thin under the thermostat housing and thats what i suspect.
BTW Steve, when a paying customer rolls in with a BBF, my reply is no better engine out there lol, i have been itching lately and its not from glass, alergic reaction?

Eric, would you happen to have the manual with the crankshaft specs on the Mercruiser 470 engine???
That's another itching engine out there!

im not familier with the 470, what exactly is it? I have close to 1000 manuals, those specs are in there somewhere.
Greg, I popped the thermostat housing and it still had water in it from when they fired the boat, the block is filled halfway with mix oil/water any cracks would allow the thermostat housing to be empty, hopefully the engine will be out by the time i get to work and I'll pop off the intake, it didnt get cold enough to crack...this one is screwy.

It'll be interesting to see what you find. I found the crack right where the front rails mate. I only found it because I was chasing a weep of oil down the front. Since I have seen the same oil leak on a couple of others.
I would only get a tiny bit of water in the oil, so maybe intake water ports?

it has to be going in through the valley, but why is the intake still full of clean water? unless it is a slight crack and pisses under pressure

Maybe someone topped off the radiator?
Ya never know...a friend of mine pumped 200 gallons of gas into a rod holder 1 time...

problem pretty much solved, while the engine hung on the gantry, over a three day period clean water constantly dripped out of the bell housing onto the floor....guess why

The boat filled with water and now im in a battle with the owner and the seller, the new owner doesnt know who to believe so i set him straight yesterday. the boat was brought to me this way. I popped off the bellhousing and can see a nice rust line about 2" above the crank centerline,
I told the new owner, what exactly do I have to gain here? its here because your friend reffered you...sometimes id just like to smack guy's like this upside the head, he just doesnt get it
