What is that I hear on the news here...?
You guys going on the European tour...?
Smaller engines with better fuel consumption...?
Obama said that US cars need to reach a fuel efficiency of 35,1 miles to the gallon by 2016, where they currently have an average of 24,5 MPG...
Just for reference purposes: the allowed mileage to the gallon (yes I converted it for you guys) in Europe is set to 47,04 (= 5L/100km) by 2012. The current average of our cars is 33,6 MPG.
But manufacturers here have already a long history in trying to make their cars more fuel efficient (whithout loosing the HP).

It is more difficult to get those numbers in the Suburbans, Escalades, and Expeditions.
We have to have those big cars to drive those long distances in comfort. Heck, I drive 20 miles to work each day and have to have my comfort or I might not make it.
You guys have mass transit. Mass transit over here is a Soccer mom carpool.

Well within the next 10 years the infrasctructure will be in place and plug in-hybrid's will be the norm for hybrids and you'll have a whole bunch of true electric's on the road and they won't need petrol any more.
The cars are developed the battery technology has finely caught up so it's only a matter of time before it happens, for doubters I suggest you watch the Ford comercials and their future line-up of electrics getting ready to hit the market. GM will be a mjor player again as well, provided Ohdamn it doesn't pull the plug on them first.

ROFLOL Roger!!!!
But, the new BMW of my uncle (a break as is mine, with a 3000cc engine with 197 HP, where mine is a 2500cc engine with 177 HP) is just two years younger than my car, but has an average fuel consumption of 41,3 MPG, where mine has an average of 26,5 MPG...
Just to say how much technology has evolved over two years...
Oh, and FYI, no problem in towing my CC over large distances comfortably

I know Kris diesel are on the up its just all the new stuff looks sht unless you pay over £40,000 shall have to wait a few years to pick one up.
I think most people need it to look good too not just high mpg and a dog that can only pull its self.
Until then I go with US built Merc 5.5L 17 to 20 mpg 350 Hp tows good too.

Roger, you're right, these kind of cars are expensive. I bought mine second hand (one year old) because it's just too expensive when you buy it new. I needed the price of my car when it was new plus all the options that where on it for my insurance company... 64995,00 euro!!! I bought it for 25000 euro...
But still, there are other brands and models that look quite good these days and are less expensive. But indeed, it's all diesel over here.
