What kind of mufflers you guys running out there? I have a '68 F250 w/390 big block in it. I put a glass pack in it a couple of years ago, but, its very quiet. Nice rumble at idle, but, thats about it. I want some more sound, but, not over the top loud. Also, I will run a single exhaust because I have a extra tank between the frame rails, so not a lot of extra room.   

Thought I would check and see what any of you guys like. Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Cherry Bomb, Thrush, etc, etc. So many mufflers, so little time!!!!

check out the Summit brand, very cheap and made by i believe Dynamax

I have flowmaster 40 series on my Z71, nic etraditional sound with a good rumble but a little loud for my current tastes.

On my Diesel i run a 4" MBRP turbo back system and it sounds great, very subtle tone.

For my current project, a 72 chevy pickup w/350 slightly hot rodded, I'm looking at the Summit brand or the 50 series flowmasters (quieter than the 40's)

Chris....I think the FM's 40s would be way to loud for me. Its hard to find that right sound. I want to have a subdued rumble, but, yet have it bark a little bit when you put your foot into it.

I am running a long glass pack right now, but, it just isn't getting it. I am thinking maybe a Magnaflow and going from 2" fake duals to a 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" single.

Oh well, still trying to get the boat all buttoned up so the mufflers can wait a little while longer.

Had a Borla on my 89 C10. Didn't like it so much so I switched to Gibson and love it.

Steve....Do you know what model # the Gibson is you put on? I may have to check those out.

I had Magnaflow on my 97 F-150. It had a low quiet rumble at idle, was unobtrusive at cruise but barked when you put your foot in it. It's a single exhaust.

I can't remember, It's been a long time. It is single exit behind left rear wheel. All mandrel bent and a huge muffler tucked up under the bed. I believe I got it at Jegg's.

From the sound of it, magnaflow will not be for you. In my experience, most of their mufflers are very quiet unless under heavy acceleration. Their shorter mufflers will be significantly louder, but have a lot of popping in them under acceleration. I'm not a fan of ridiculously loud exhaust on a truck, so corsa is what I like. They have a very nice tone under acceleration and a mild rumble at idle....

I have been too busy to check into it much further, but, I still think I am going to take out the fake duels, and go with a 2 1/2" inlet, and a 2 1/4" outlet single, exiting behind the passenger side rear tire.

There is a glasspack/steelpack manufacturer called Brockman Mellowtones out of Indiana. Just a small mfg, but, I have done a lot of research on the web, and as far as old school glasspacks go, their name comes up alot. I really don't want to spend $125+ for a muffler for the truck. The Brockmans cost around $35 or so. I am just looking for a nice rumble without being over the top loud.

I don't know if it would be a candidate for my truck, as I am going for the old school sound, but the newer Dodge trucks sound REALLY good straight from the factory.

I run a 79 f150 with a 524" (429 based) motor in it. I used to run dual tanks on the truck before i shortened the wheelbase and duals can be run down one side then split around the rear tank. I did the same thing on my 94 lightning with dual tanks. I run a dual in/out magnaflow muffler on the Lightning. very mild but nice for a driver. I run flowmasters on the 79, sounds breat but they have a drone at cruising speeds that bother my ears, not from the exhaust sound but the mufflers develop a harmonic rumble that bothers me in a street vehicle.

My favorites ate turbo tubes, they look like a glass pack that has been crimped. you can install them in either direction, one way is louder the other a little softer. Hollywood used to make them as well. If they have louvers on the inside they are usually reversable, openings towards the engine for sound control and away for unrestricted flow. I have a set of cherry bombs on my motorhome and my 78 plow truck and with a full tailpipe they are very civil and just the right amount bark.

I have an '05 GMC 1500 Crew Cab with a flowmaster 40 series side exit in front of the rear wheel. I love the sound, especially with a S&B intake. I'm sure my mods have increased the efficiency of the truck, but I'm getting worse mileage due to my new heavy foot on acceleration!
