I have an 85 ski nautique and I want to buy a FCT gen 2 tower. The tower came off a 2000 snob. Its a little too wide for the 85. I was thinking of chopping it in half on the top piece for shipping and just cutting it to fit the width and reweld it. I posted this here because you are the mechanically minded group of the site and I could use your input. thanks

One problem could be the Horizontal tubes running front to back between the top bars, there are (3) with one being at the center. If you wanted to maintain uniformity you would need to cut top bars off center both sides equally.

I was thinking about that last night. I only need to cut out an inch or two and if I only cut from one side the pull point will be off center. Is that what your talking about. I dont know if 1 or 2 inches is enough to notice. Probably not a big deal though to do it right. thanks man.

Yes, that's what he is saying you need to take an equal amount from each side for the towing point to remain center. There is a guy on this site and on pn.com he did exactly that. I can't recall his name right now. he is from the Southern California area and I remember his tower is powder coated white. BKH

I am doing the same thing. I bought and FCT Gen 2 and I am adapting it to my 87 SN. I have seen it done two ways. One person cut in the middle, removed 6 inches, and weld it back toghether. Others have bent the legs. The person that cut the tower told me that is he has to do it again he would bend the legs and re-position the base. I would study both options and see wich one is better.

These are some picture from the person who cut the tower.

I am having the tower shipped to me and he is cutting it in 2 places across the middle, this will help cut down on shipping charges. I was planning on sleeving it with aluminium and welding it back. I need to look into bending the legs. wont that look funny? thanks for the info guys. chess
