Can anybody make me a good deal on a GOOD prop? This is for my '94 Sport Nautique 351 1.23:1. If you have another size that you would recommend, please let me know.
Thanks,
James

James, if youre willing to pony up for a new prop (a little over $300) then an Acme 1442 would really wake up that boat. Its a 13.25x15 3-blade. I run it on my '90 and love it.

TRBenj,
Don't I remember you doing loads of prop testing a couple of years back? What about the ACME 470? How does it compare to the 1442? I remember on my '78 when I changed to a 540 the performance absolutely blew me away. One thing I didn't like was the cavitation noise it made in reverse (I'm a pretty demanding driver).
I've been running a NOS Federal (identical to the original) and one complaint I've always had is the extra effort it takes to steer this boat (over my '78). I have a suspicion that the BIG 14X17 right in front of the rudder is to blame. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks,
James

You have a 14x17 Federal on there now? Weird. I was under the impression that CC had gone to the 14x16 OJ 3-blade by '94.
I like the 1442 even better than the 470 on my boat. Its a little larger in diameter so it turns a few less RPM- so I think its the better choice for boats with the HO 351w. I dont know about it changing the steering effort, but who knows. I do think you'll be blown away by the difference in performance (again)!

Oops. I meant 14X16. I'm running the 14X16 now. I thought the original was the Federal 14X16, but it might have been the OJ 14X16.
BTW, The dual exhaust project on your boat is the COOLEST thing I have ever seen!!! Congrats on a job well done.

Haha, Im not sure my neighbors would agree with you, but thanks!
14x16 makes sense. At some point in '94 I think they made the switch from Federal to OJ- I think Keith's '94 came with the latter. Regardless, the 1442 is the hot ticket!

Tim suggesting somebody try the 1442 or 470 in a prop thread? That train is never late! :p

M3Fan,
Do you have a different opinion on the best prop choice for my boat?
I still haven't had any luck finding anything, so I might have to go through a dealer for a new prop. Does any one know where I can find the best price on the ACME 1442? Any FANS have one on a shelf you're willing to part with for a fellow FAN?
Thanks,
James

Let me know if I can help,
Matt

Thanks for offering to help Matt. If I'm going for a NEW prop, I'm leaning toward the ACME, but I might want to consider the OJ CNC props. I was really hoping that for now I could find something reconditioned, or NOS at a good price. If you have one I might like please post or email me some details.
Thanks,
James

James, Ive tried just about all the props available for the direct drive 1.23 boats (both OJ XMP and Acme) and Ill stand by the 1442 recommendation! Definitely dont bother with the 3-blade OJ 14x16- Ive got one of those too and performance isnt comparable.
The best price youre going to find is with Delta Propellor- theyre a site sponsor, so use the discount code.

I just ordered the 1442 from Delta. That is a GREAT CCF discount! ...and they have the props in stock. By the end of this week, you won't be able to slap the grin off my face! Thanks for all the input.
