I have a mechanically mint condition 98 SN, there are two others identical to my boat in our club - one light blue, the other is dark green. My boat is the dark navy blue with white on white.
We all care for our boats identically - wipe down after every use, spray wax every third day or so. We ski on a gravel pit, and put 100+ hours on our boats annually. Boats are kept on trailers out of the pit at all times.
I live in michigan, so we only ski 5 months out of the year. Boat is stored inside during the winter.
The question is - why would my gel coat fade so horribly ! It makes me sick to compare it to the other two 98's right next to mine. Anyone know of 98 navy blue SN's having an issue? Do you need the manufacture month off my label?

you can try buffing and sanding the hull..search for post under those topics and will find lots of tips advices etc...

I had a 98 SN Navy and Gray, never had any issues. Neighbor has a 99, Navy and white, still looks great as well. We do have intense sun here, and the boat stays on lift year round. I use a full cover that comes all the way down the side of the boat.
My 2001 is Navy as well. Used a cover just below rub rail for two years, and had some fading. After getting is sanded/buffed to new, I went out and bout a new full cover.

there isn't much you can do with dk blue gel other than buff the hell out of it. wet sanding first will get you deeper into the finish which will help to remove the oxidized surface. That will work but it's temporary at best. If you do wet sand first, using something fine like 600 or 800, once you complete the sanding process, wash the boat so all the dust is gone. Keep it wet with water and if it looks good with water on it you could have someone that knows painting clearcoat the gelcoat. That would be more of a permanent fix for the problem. Once the clear finish is on the gel it won't fade...IMO.

I think his questions is geared more towards "Why" it's happening, not what to do to fix it. My guess is your neighbors are keeping wax on their boats better than you do on your's. Wax will protect your gel from fading. Try the collinite #925 or #885, good stuff, and lasts all year. I don't think this has anything to do with what color your boats are.
