Ok, so I am looking for a couple more parts for the 64 Nautique. We replaced the steering wheel about 20 years ago, and now I wish we had kept the old one. It looks similar to the one in the attached picture (Thanks Brian - 65 Mustang in Wonder Lake, IL http://www.correctcraftfan.com/forsale/details.asp?ID=2965&sort=&pagenum=1)

The steering wheel was a white plastic, perhaps even bakalite. Have never been able to find something like it.

Also I noticed that our stern light globe (plastic) has cracked and no longer stays in place. It is a larger diameter and taller then anything available in marine stores today. This would probably have to be somebody's new old stock.

Anybody have any thoughts on either of these items???

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
I found this wheel on good ol ebay a few years ago... was just going to be for temporary use....

Here is the original wheel.... If you look close, you can see the whole top of the hub was broken and missing..as well as cracks in the spokes..

Here's a link to a simular vintage wheel on http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/15-VINTAGE-STEERING-WHEEL_W0QQitemZ110407725828QQcmdZViewItemQQptZBoat_Parts_Accessories_Gear?hash=item19b4d03304&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A10%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 - ebay

This one has a splined hub tho. I'm guessing your dad's 64 has a keyed shaft. Also looks like the center cap dia is kinda small. I will keep watching tho, like the boat your looking for, patience is the word.

Do you have a pic of the light lense?

So are their other boat manufacturers that used the same wheel? I have been looking on ebay but never see anything even close. As you said patience, patience, patience

Good lord, you guys are all awesome and way to much fun. This is getting as addicting as my vintage John Deere snowmobile passion that gets me through the WI winters.

I dont know which ones, but Im sure it was used on other boats also.

I dont think the wheel you need is, but a lot of early wheels were actually used on cars... the wheel on my 66 Barracuda SS was used on 58 or 59 Mercury turnpike Cruisers...

http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2744670680103439384jPBsCg">

Notice CC didnt even make a CC center cap...it still has the Merc emblem! LOL

While the wheel on my 62 Higgins were originally off of Willys Overland Cruisers of the early 50's..

How much fun can a guy have anyway!?

Steve,
You PM'd me, however your email is listed as private so I can not reply. Send me you email address.

Our family had a JD 1976 Liquifier, 1978 Spitfire and a 1982 Liquifier. I think we still have the JD full faced helmet with the deer antlers painted on it. We also had a Raider, Trail Twister, Sno Twister, Bolens, Trade Winds all go through the shed at one time or another.

Here's my old steering wheel. Either I'm gonna try and restore it or I'll pay someone on the site that does this!!!

Marty,
Thats about as ugly as my wheel! LOL

I just about threw mine out years ago, thank goodness I decided to hang it in the corner of my garage. After getting mine to this point, I can see why the pros get so much money to restore one!

I thought Dad had left his in the garage too, but neither he not I can find it - I guess its my own fault for constantly nagging him to stop saving stuff.

Anyway, great pics, same wheel we had, and if I remember right, that is about the same type of break we had on the 64 - obviously a design fault.

I'll be keeping my eyes on ebay and craigslist, if anyone else runs across one, I would appreciate a heads up. Thanks!

Steve

Hey Steve,
I got a good idea! Why dont you just bring that ol junk 64 down my way.   I'd be happy to slide it under my steering wheel!   Heck I'd even paint it aqua to match that ugly thing! LOL

Man , I can hardly wait to see it at GL... you guys planning to be around yet Sunday afternoon? ( I cant get there til then )

BTW, whats on the boat for a wheel right now?

Oh man, now I feel bad, we were planning on leaving Saturday night (other commitments on Sunday). How long are you staying up in GL? The boat will be up in the neighborhood (at our land), I might be able to meet you on Monday for a personal showing. Have to check the work schedule... Alternatively, my folks may decide to stick around for Sunday, they have been known to change plans at the last minute.

It has a Black Telex boat steering wheel circa 1985... I think the wheel broke and the cable went bad all at the same time, but my memory is not as good as it used to be.

BTW, I thought your idea was hilarious! If you can get my Dad to sign up for that one more power to ya.

Hey Steve,
Our plans are to stay thru Monday afternoon. Dont worry about changing your schedule.... if it works, that would be cool. Otherwise, Im in NW IL and we'll catch up sometime.

I'll start working on your dad... tell him Ive got a "nice" 68 Correct Craft Barracuda (AND..it still has it's original steering wheel)that I could trade even up for that 4 year older boat of his!

Gary,
When Steve and Pam stopped by our house up north for the visit, the subject did come up about Steve getting out of the wedding early. I got a real dirty look from Pam so I shut up!!!!!
