I installed a new front seal and pump seal in my 1.5 to 1 Velvet drive. I reinstalled it, filled it full of tranny fluid. When i tried it out, well needless to say, it doesnt work very well. at first it would go clockwise no matter what, forward or reverse, then it started going in the correct direction but I would have to rev it to over 3000 RPMS. I can hold the shaft and rev it to 3000 RPMS and it wont move. I took it back out today to check the pump markings and it seems correct. The crank on the motor turns clockwise, looking at the front of the motor and the arrow is pointing clockwise on the pump cover looking at the front of the tranny.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I bought this boat knowing it had a bad fluid leak, but when i went to look at the boat, the tranny seem to work fine, I shifted it back and forth and reved it many times and it seem to work perfect. But I never had it in the water.

Tim,
Did you ever find the velvet drive manual in the reference section I pointed out?

I did find it and have used it to help me troubleshoot this thing, I just dont have enough exp with these trannies to really give a good educated guess as to what is wrong.

I was hoping to get it fixed by the 4th, but it dont look like its going to happen, Maybe by next weekend I'll be out on the water :)

how did you determine if the pump was good? a bad front seal leak usually indicates that there is more of a problem than just the seal, the seal is designed just to hold oil in the pump not pressure, to much clearance in the pump and then pressure will get behind the seal and at times will push the seal out. when the pumps go bad, the missing material on the sides of the pumps doesnt dis-appear, its a closed system and material ends up in the clutch packs.....
