The Belt Pulleys (Alternator water pump & Raw Water pump ) pulleys on my 2001 develop rust in between boat use ( its damp here in the U.K. ) and therefore then start to abrade the belts resulting in black particles all over the front of my engine. Have wire brushed them up and am wondering whether to paint them, possibly using hammerite as it can be applied straight onto an oxidised / rusty surface .
Worries are ..........the belt will wear the hammerite off resulting in more black particles
Removing the pulleys completely and powdercoating is probably a big job which I haven't got time for at the moment
Suggestions ??????

I would try painting them. What have ya got to loose?
They should have been painted from the factory, or did the paint wear out of the grooves?
I wonder if you could find billet aluminum pulleys. Just a thought.
