Since I'm skunked for Lake George this year, I'd like to start the conversation for the Sept reunion in southern IL. Lets start by floating dates and locations. Todd, Alan, Stang, Moj', Rob, Joel, HW, CQ, and many more....?
I'd like to suggest Sept 11th - 13th.

I'll put my vote in for Clinton. I'm done with Shelby. Way easier drive, heated lake- can't beat it!

Only weekend in Sept that won't work for us is the weekend of the 25th. Out of town wedding.

We decided last year that Shelbyville's not even on the table this year so it's just the date we need to work out. Sept 11-13 works for us.
And of course it's open to anyone, the more the merrier.

We'll be camping there this weekend Steve so I'll try to get some updated info on hotels but we may be better off waiting for Todd to get back from Minn. He's really got more info on the area than me but I'll see what I can dig up.

We may be able to make it this year. We spent a day there this past Memorial Day weekend, kind of busy, but the kids loved the fact that they could stay in the water all day long and not get cold. We may even go down there and camp/boat for a day or two in the middle of August.
On the way home in May, we noticed there are a couple of hotel options in the town of LaRoy (spelled LeRoy on Mapquest). It's probably only 10 minutes farther from the campground than Farmer City, and these may be better than what's available in Farmer City for the non-campers. I can't say for sure because we only noticed them from the interstate.

I see you guys mentioning the "Heated" lake...I was pretty confused but saw a Nuclear plant on the lake when looking at the map. I assume that is what you're referring to. Do the cooling towers get the water noticably warmer? That's pretty sweet if so.

The campground is called the Mascoutin Recreational Area and is managed by the Il DNR. Here is a link for information. Yes, it does have showers. They used to not accept reservations, but I have heard that has changed.

It will still be fairly busy early september but like you said, the fact that you can stay in the water all day long makes it ideal especially if the weather doesn't co-operate. Last year the water temp was still high 80's+ on the warm side of the lake.

C-Bass,
The Nuke dump hot water into the lake. During the summer, the section of the lake where the water is dumped will exceed 100 degrees. From the outlet to the dam, the temperature will gradually decrease, but we are still talking water that is usually over 80 degrees.

No Nukes here, but water is still above 80. Come on down to the South!

Dang, 100°! That's hot tub water. Way too hot to be refreshing though. But that's really nice for those later months when other lakes start getting too cold.
Skicat, I often wonder why I haven't moved down to Tennessee yet. Probably has to do with being that far away from the rest of the family, but the wife and I sure love it down that way.

Ok, ok...fair enough. But I'm sure Nutty and I will find something to do in 80 degree water as I recover.

October is not much of a option for me/us. Even these dates in September will be hit and miss. Harvest is gearing up and there are a few squirrely farmers who will be running in the fields. I will be on call the whole weekend. So lets stick to raindogs dates and just stick to them. The morning skiing will be spectacular until 11 or so. Brew sippin' the rest of the day.
As for hotels, you will need to go back to either Bloomington or Champaign. It is a 30 mile drive but that is where the hotels are. LeRoy doesn't have anything. Mahomet does have a older hotel, but don't know what the accomodations are like. Clinton does have hotels but I have not idea what they are. Lovely thing about the web!
I know we will be camping. The grounds are nice and the facilities are very good. There is no RV rentals in the area so that isn't a option as far as I know.
We will be leaving for Minnesota tonight, but hopefully this answers some questions. Just give a shout if you want to talk on the phone. 217-202-5946.
Later!

Unfortunately these central IL trips are tough on those of us who have toddlers or infants because hotels are sparse/crappy/far away. Maybe we can have the grandparents babysit this weekend. If not, we'll have to get a haz mat team into that Days Inn.

Don't have any kids yet, but I know where you are coming from Joel. Travel is a must if you want a respectable hotel. I honestly don't know what is in Clinton...I think there are some new hotels out by 51, but not positive. That drive wouldn't be too far.
I guess Eagle Creek at Shelbyville had mold in it too. I know you are laughing Joel! I guess the state owns it now...like we can afford that!

As for lodging there is a brand new Holiday Inn express in Leroy, only been open a short time. Now here's my disclaimer WE DID NOT STOP TO CHECK IT OUT BECAUSE IT'S BRAND NEW. Stay at your own risk. It is exactly 20 miles from the campground on RT74.

Super easy drive. About a 2 hour run down to Bloomington (which I've done a million times going to ISU), then about a 35 minute jaunt over on 74 to Clinton. Piece of cake.

4 hours for me.
Friday AM, most likely. I might not rule out a Thursday run though. I'll need to see how things go. I've been pushing the family pretty hard by squeezing in a extra day here and there.
Wife and kids - yes.
Camping - don't know. Might come down to the weather. The only positive about Shelbyville is they had a camper/RV rental joint near by. I pop-up would be great if it starts to rain.

Steve,
Thats a plus and one could argue there is better skiing at Shelbyville if you know the lake but everything else makes Clinton a great place for this large a get together.
As for having to lodge away from the lake don't worry about missing too much as you can hang at the campground for a while. This is the type of get together where everyone pitches in and takes care of those that don't have lake houses and have learned to rough it all summer.
Now seriously, to everybody coming out especialy first timers(Quinner, RJ, nautique Hunter, Groovin, etc, just stock your cooler with your burgers or steaks or whatever and show up at the campground after a day in the water. All I charge is one beer per person and I'll cook all night. Heck, last year we had ton's of food and feed a whole bunch of weary(half in the bag) and hungry boaters. Anything in our motorhome except my bed is there for sharing. We also have a 3 room tent from the good old days I can bring along if anyone needs it.
You won't miss much by having to drive back to the hotel because I think we were all dead by 10pm after 12 hours of sun and fun.

So I'm intrigued by this warm lake, sounds pretty cool. I am okay with small locally owned hotels as long as they are relatively clean. Anybody know anything about the Wye Motel, the Town & Country Motel or the Sunset Inn & Suites (this one seems to be like a Cybarus - scary, but there is recommedations from families...)? These are all in Clinton.

Holiday Inn sounds good, it is not as far as some of the others. We drove 24 miles (a lot on back roads) to my wifes folks cottage up at GL and it took about an hour each way. That got old quick. There are also a couple of places in Clinton, I was hoping someone local could give us traveling in a heads up. I am okay with anything as long as it is clean. These newer Holiday Inns are usually pretty good.
I am looking at making this a guys weekend, so I was going to indoctrine a couple of friends into the Correct Craft experience (maybe we can convince them to buy a couple of correct crafts - oh crap I gave them this link...)
Steve
P.S. I bought a Babes kit with my boat - I am sold, that stuff is awesome!

Hey looks like I am going to make it down with a couple of friends. Want to make hotel reservations but am torn between the Holiday Inn Express in Decatur and the one in Le Roy. What ramp is everyone going to use (and where exactly is it located - looks like there is at least 2 according to Google Map), that will help narrow down which one is closer.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
Most will use the ramp in the Mascoutin campgrounds. That's what I'd recommend that way you can pull out and join the gang for a while on land at the end of the day, bring burgers or something to cook there will be everything you need to cook on/with available.
LeRoy is exactly 20 miles from the campground, not sure about Decatur.
We're gonna have a great weekend gang, we camped this past weekend with Mike & Gail Hunter and a few of their friends and had a great time. Got us all up on the surf boards and had a ball.
We found an ideal cove with a nice sandy beach that will hold 20 or so boats. Depending on wind and temps this would make a great spot as it's nice to get out of the boats for a bit. It's about mid-point on the lake so it won't be the hottest water around but might still be nice if the air is warm.

Ok, Le Roy HI Express looks like is where we will be... It is closer to Mascoutin then Decatur.
Should be fun! And we will bring burgers and stuff if your sure you don't mind sharin the grill. I'll make sure we have the required beer entry fee!
Thanks, Steve

I'm most likely out for this trip. I completely forgot that my neighbor does his back yard concert thing that weekend, which I perform at every year with my other neighbor. Unfortunately, it's too big of a commitment to skip although I'd much rather be boating.

We decided last minute friday to head down for another weekend at Clinton. Got some great skking in and scoped out some great campsites. Also made friends with a gang down there that has a 98 Air and will be joining us. Nautique people are awesome.
Can we get a count on how many will be camping, the sites we liked are reservable so we may mail in for them just so we are all together. Otherwise we'll get in as early as possible and try to hold a group of sites together.

Alan,
I think our plan will be to reserve a camping site.
If the weather is wet, We'll probably run to a hotel for the night.
We don't have great camping equipment so putting up with rain at night won't fly.
However, I'll still utilize the site by leaving the boat there overnight.
What is the cost per night for the camp site?
Should be there on Friday around noon.

'Tis true. This weekend, Mojo, one of my friends and I met at the pier at 7:00 on Saturday to get a few pulls in before the wind kicked up and our families woke up. With Moj' driving the Black Python back to the dock, we spot a white 211 with orange accents and surf boards on the rack. We swing by to say hi. A local guy and two girls were on the boat, all in their mid-20's, I'd guess. I started asking how he weights for surfing. He says factory ballast and a lot of people.
So, I ask how he'd like and extra 650 lbs of ballast? He said sure. The two girls on the 211 just about crapped when the three of us old guys climbed aboard...until they saw the size of the wake! It was the first time for any of us a lady appreciated the few extra rib-eyes we all are carrying just above the belt line, hahaha.
Wes offered up a pull and I accepted with great appreciation.
Talked up the site and 2010 reunion, so if you see this, thanks much Wes!

We're camping for sure so count us in for 1 site.
I invited another guy (who is 90% for coming also)
I'm thinking 1 camp site is probably big enough for two tents.
On the DNR site it says: A group camp area for adults or youth groups has room for 75. It provides a secluded wooded setting and has a large shelter with electricity, three RV pads with electrical hookups, toilets, tables, grills and water there are no shower facilities at the group camp area.
Are we thinking about coordinating a group reservation or should we work it out individually?

Ok, Here's what I found out. The group site is taken for that weekend so we're on our own.
We've been camping in the A area sites 40-49 are reservable and all available as of this morning. I just put our check in the mail requesting site 44. Any sites in this range are within throwing distance of each other, 42 through 46 are on the cul'de'sak and there's a trail right down to the lake. These sites will allow us to tie the boats up and it's a short walk up to the campground if you want to get off the water for a bit(or check on the dog).
So go to the dnr site, print your reservation request and send them a check for $25. Do it today while all these sites are open. We'll be getting in late thursday night.

Awesome, looks like we got the makings of a great weekend.
I'm going to email some of the gang that doesn't watch the site as closely as some of us do to make sure they know what's going on.
Might be a good idea to post a few cell phone numbers incase you show up and we're already on the water. The lake is long and you could waste half a tank of gas looking for everyone.

My wife and I are supposed to go visit friends in New Hampshire that weekend but if the weather is bad we won't go up there. I'm thinking this might be a good plan B..... Would anybody have room for two more in their boat? I don't have a good enough tow vehicle to bring my boat out there. I can bring the Sky Ski if people would like to learn that....its good for all kinds of water.
Just thinking out loud here....

Boy I couldn't even commit to getting there yet John, just sounds like the right direction to travel in late september to me.
We'll be in your neck of the woods for a drive by labor day weekend, hooking up with BJ to pick up an engine he's holding for me for the Hurricane. Maybe a quick hello if we can fit it in. I'll give you a call later this week.

But we won't be there all weekend (I hope) so I'll talk to later this week in hopes that we can meet up. I think BJ is only about a hour or so from us...never been there.
I still hope you make it to GA too....I think you said "Dana said to hook it up" meaning the boat I'd think. Gonna be a cool time.
