Does anyone know of a small gear box or adapter for a Velvet Drive that would fit a 1600cc 4 cylinder? The race guys use these motors (a fancy Pinto motor) in different spec classes from 1600-2000-2300cc. But they all use a direct drive shaft with a quick coupler. I would like to find a similar size motor for a small vintage fiberglass boat we are working on this winter. The goal is to delete the outboard and convert to an inboard and fill in the rear deck with a hatch. The big catch is the boat has to have a F-N-R gear box. I know there are tons of I/O setups with small Chevy 4 bangers but I would like to avoid the I/O and I tend to bleed Ford blue.

That is exactly what I need, Pete! Up here in the Northwest, alot of the vintage guys are using the Bearcat motors that are version of a Crosly motor. Now to find one!
Yes, it is a C1 hardtop. Probably worth 5 x's the cost of the boat. The plan is to use all the original Vette attachment points so the top is not modified and can be switched between the car and boat when needed. They are rarely used on the cars anyway. If it is raining, you put it away! We have been busy up here Pete. We finished the little Tollycraft Rumpas and actually won a "Best Amateur Restoration" award at the ACBS show in Portland, Or. We have now started on a Hydrocycle for my son to play with (at least that is what we think it is!). We are feeling better about our skills and starting to plan the Correct Craft return to glory shortly!

Congratulations on the Tollycraft. Looks great!! The Hydrocycle (or whatever!!) looks like a real interesting project. Reminds me of a similar project I played with back in my teens. It too was a one person early attempt at a personal watercraft - no jet but propped!! Came out of England and no engine parts were available since the company had gone out of business. Never got the engine to run so I fitted it with a 292 JLO snowmobile engine. Didn't work out because my engineering skills weren't the greatest back then. The original centrifugal clutch couldn't handle the extra HP. Plus, the engine being air cooled it got rather hot down there!! It actually has a transom and mounts an outboard. We are going to put a 5 horse Johnson (1957) on it for him to start out on. Here is a picture of a friends Hydrocycle in the water.
