I was told by a pretty good reliable source that if you own a 1995 to 2000 toyota Tacoma, you know the ones, they rotted to the ground, but if you take them into the dealership they will buy back the truck at blue book...the reliable source was told that he bought a couple of rotted ones from private owners and turned them in,
anyone ever hear of this? or does anyone have one in these years that is rotted?
Eric

Yes, something in the frames that is causing the rust. This is what I drive at CarQuest, he got the recall notice but hasn't done anything. We got the notice summer of 07. Of course the 1st day on the job I blew the motor! 5mph and 120,000 miles. 2 rods broke loose from the pins on the pistons and went out both sides of the block.Even though we delievered to the Toyota place and that's where he bought it from, they would'nt do anything for him. He was pretty mad.Excuse was that if they had done the maintinence on the truck all along they would have compensated something. When we tore the motor apart it was as clean as a pin.No brg wear or anything.$4500 later a new motor -TRD- and I'm on pins and needles every day because I have put another 120,000 miles on it. This was in 2004 when this happened.

The Toyota trucks are then hauled to a auto recycler and crushed. They are not allowed to part them out.

There has been a toyota truck frame recall going on for a long time. Yes it did drive resale value up on rusty old trucks for people looking to trade them in. You had to actually have a hole in the frame, then you got blue book and they kept your truck. Problem was if you had a nice truck you took care of and actually got screwed by an unusual hole you didnt get nearly enough money to replace it.

one thing about the asian auto companies, they recall silently to avoid bad press...or they will offer a free oil change at the dealer and do the recall repair....pretty slick
no guys im not going in that direction, i was just passing info in case someone has a rot bucket and could use the cash...it would be nice to find one in the paper for 4 or 5 hundred bucks and get the recall

I was just talking to some one about this the other day. I guess that in some cases they are actually replacing the entire frame.
