WakeSlayer and Storm, you boys have been freezing your butts off.
Contrary to many on this site, I love the cold. If it's not 75 degrees, I want it below 30. The ice is getting thick; there should be trucks on it this weekend. The quads and go-carts will be burning the boat's fuel this weekend (high around 20 Sunday).
BTW, some of you may have seen a news article about two snowmobilers killed on Sunday on White Lake. It happened about a 1/4 mile from my cottage. We had just left and passed the group at the Inn. Two buddies, one didn't have a working headlight, head on collision.
Needless to say, be careful if your on the ice.

Guess that's why you booked a flight to sunny Fla already huh Mike?

I'd like to see you guys handle above 90'f and 60% humdity for a couple months.

It might get above 32'f in Hotlanta by weeks end but then they are calling for single digit's for the weekend. I had to break out the jeans and turtlenecks last weekend. I don't know how you guys do this day after day. Three days of below freezing temps and already I'm tired of it. Shoot! I even had to run home yesterday and drain the water out of the block, manifolds, etc.

Tim,

The thermometer got my itchy trigger finger to confirm my flight a little sooner than I planned. Don't forget that here in MN we do have hot summers and fairly high humidity (from all the lakes) We just happen to get ass freezing cold here too. What gets really tiresome is when this crap stretches for weeks at a time. Our roads are horrible here still from the Xmas snowstorm. When it gets this cold, salt no longer works.

Tull, you guys race on the ice? We ride dirtbikes on the ice, but the ice is awful right now. We got 6 inches of ice, then HEAVY wet snow, then super cold. We will be lucky to get a decent track put in this year.

I hope everyone who usually doesn't winterize, is now. You never know.

Its not winter I hate, just cold weather in general.Since Christmas Eve we have hade a 100 yr blizzard which blew the cover off my wind turbines filled the attic with enough snow that when we finnally got a day of 42 melted and discolored my bedroom ceiling.Cancelled the biggest Flat track event of our winter season that I spent two weeks getting everything ready for.Now the highs in 7 day forecast are 14,18,19, etc nothing even close to freezing and tomorrow 40 mph winds.
The only thing good on the horizon is "Chili Bowl Midget Nationals" which start next Tuesday the 12th.I'm ready for some warm weather and a break to do something I want to do for a change of pace.We did go to the lake for New Years it was good to see the girls all snuggled in the barn.

Good luck Munday

There were a lot of dirt bikes on the ice last Sunday. Perfect conditions with 7" of ice and 2" of hard pack. My buddy plowed a track for the go-carts last week while I was gone (Sunny and 80 degrees). This weekend we'll have the kids running the go carts, and the adults running the quads.   We have two sleighs we pull behind the quads to get the wives to the Inn.
We have fun on the lake, liquid or solid.
Same offer applies, all CCFanners welcome, beers on me.

Our ice has 4-6 inches of slush over the ice, and 4-6 inches of hard frozen snow on top of the slush. Sucks...

Thread jack

Somewhere around Coldwater is a place that sells the most incredible floating material. It's like neoprene, but is sort of slimy. A friend has a white, 4' square x 3" thick piece of this stuff and it will hold 4 people. We call it "toxomat" because it has to be some sort of waste product. They got it at a gas station near Coldwater. The only other time I saw it was a guy who had a dock/hoist moving business. He had eight similar size pieces of it in the back of his truck. I asked if he would sell any, and he said no way. He said he bought the business from a guy who got the material from Coldwater. Have you ever seen anything like this?
BTW, have you ever been to the nudist resort in Coldwater? If there is a lake it would make for an interesting reunion location.

Well we got the coldest and snowiest winter since a very long time. And weather forecast says it's gonna keep up like this for quite a while longer... More snow to be expected next weekend.

Good thing about this is that the wasp nests will freeze, so less wasps in the summer. Good thing for me anyway, as I am allergic to wasp stings... You see guys, always try to find a positive note!

After watching the game last nite I was looking forword to a 2 hr. "snow" delay here in E.Carolina. The weather man called for 1-2in of snow over nite. All we got is 35* and drizzle. Now the temp is droping and the low tonite is mid teens.

Havoc in Atlanta this morning. School closings EVERYWHERE! 27 car pile up on I-285 ( perimeter around ATL) near the airport shutting down west bound lanes. Thing is that I'd bet the idiots on The Watermelon Raceway were doing 65-80 when they found the black ice. ATL radio is pleading for everyone to stay home. Roads aren't even white and the grass is still poking through the white stuff at my house. Gonna be a long day round here!

Yea, that news story with the reporter was pretty funny.
Glad Amy didn't hit the truck...or slide down the back yard to the lake!

Tim,
Would like very much to hit the SJRR. However, due to the lack of cash I will be unable to make it this year. I am a commissioned salesman working for Mohawk Industries (the flooring manufacturer) and my sales volume is down almost 50% from what it was in 2006.   The commission checks have been a lot smaller...especially this past year.
And with my two daughters in college. You know the rest of the story!
Looking forward to meeting you and your family. We should be able to hook up sometime this coming boating season.
So, toast a cold one for me next month at the SJRR.

Actually, there's no way Im going to spend over 10Gs to play in the snow... I have a few friends with the Yami 4 strokes...nice sleds, but like I said too much coin for my blood!... heck my sled is an '02 .... I bought it three months old with 1100 miles and only has 1800 miles on it now. We used to ride 1500 to 2000 evey season.

I wonder if the fact I built my heated shop about the same time has anything to do with that?

Not at all! I haven't been on a sled in several years. It all ended when I got tired of doing the repairs on them (both late 80's Yamaha's)that my son incurred. I finally gave up and told him the sleds are yours and that he could do all the repairs needed to keep them running.

This is more my style and I'd love to do a restoration on one some day.

BTW, the last time I took a look under the shroud of one of the new sheds, I couldn't even find the plugs. I finally realized it was coil over plugs and there wasn't any big fat high tension plug wires to look for!!!

Pete,

A good friend of mine in Sandpoint, Idaho has a 4 seat Imp. It is like 1973 or 1974. It has dual heaters, gear racks, and a big track on each side. He kept getting stuck on his sleds. Mind you, he is hauling gear and supplies, not just out riding for fun. He switched to a quad with tracks on it. This was no better. He got this machine for $18k including a trailer. Now he rides around in a light sweatshirt and drinks beer while tooling along. We got 200+ inches at our cabins last year. Mountain winters are seriously fun.

This is a pic at my cabin in early Feb 2008

This is the other side. We had snow until mid May.

Took the snow blower out on the lake yesterday and opened up the Hockey rink for the kids. Quit yer belly-aching, it aint cold till you can walk on the water.

We finally got some decent snow and its time to drag out the snow boards tonight and get them ready, wintersport season is on!

Snowboarding on Friday, great lake hockey game on Saturday (the ice is like a Zamboni cleaned it), quads and snowmobile races on Saturday and Sunday. Plenty of beers and Shnapps to keep the chill off. It was the perfect winter weekend.

Not everyone. I'm bummed that the forecast is calling for temps as high as 38 degrees later this week, and into the weekend. I'd like one overcast day at 40 to smooth the ice, and then drop it back to a high of 30 for the weekend.
I was on a cruise over the holidays, but could not wait to get back to Michigan and play in the snow. I may feel different around mid march, but for now, bring on the cold!

I dont know how you guys do it. I can take about 90 days of lows in 30's and 40's and highs in the 50's. Other than that, cold one, hot sun, and the nautique cruising and listen to her purr why everybody and mastercraft wish they could have a nautique. lol
